I just turned it on and he's giving some defender of the Scottish hate crime bill a hard time

while v good that JW concentrated on women, another point not made was about Edinburgh fringe where comedians often sail v close to the edge. Lots of opportunities for offence to be registered as hate and thus damage a huge money making international event

So can I complain about him? I'm not in Scotland, but the 'racially' motivated comment was committed in Scotland ............

And I'm white, so I can be insulted, I don't actually care, 'coz I can't be bothered about nonsense, but it's still insulting all the same.

Found the relevant part of the police guidance:

· Incidents on social media where the original reporter resides in another part of the UK but believes the suspect to reside in Scotland: Send details of the incident to the home force to note a statement and conduct appropriate enquiries. If the enquiries identify the crime occurred in Scotland, only then will it be sent back to Scotland.

If something happens and you are not sure if it is a crime, please remember, if it feels wrong, report it and let us help.

This is why vexatious compliants can not be tackled, the police have told people to report anything that 'feels' wrong. There is no way to establish vexatious motivation

MidsomerMurmurs · 01/04/2024 12:14

The most offensive part of Useless’ speech is that he identifies everyone as “Wight”, and I presume he means they all come from an island off the south coast of England. Very bizarre and hate-filled.

Yep. I have read all the guidance and see absolutely nothing about vexatious or malicious reports.

Was Humza Y in Holyrood when he made his 'white' speech and, if so, was he covered by parliamentary privilege?

FrancescaContini · 01/04/2024 13:42

illinivich · 01/04/2024 10:12

We dont know what tatchell is imagining when talking about women, or even female.

And why was he wheeled out to speak against the new Act when they could have chosen one of several million Scottish women who are directly affected by the absence of “biological sex” in the Act? (rhetorical question, I know)

It was a speech in the Scottish parliament, yep.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 01/04/2024 11:21

Yousouf made a speech in which he listed high up positions in Scotland and for each he said that the person holding the position is White. I haven’t heard the whole speech for context, but in the section with the “white” rhetoric I can understand people thinking he sounded prejudiced against white people.

I guess he didn’t mention his own position as First Minister when making this speech because he would have contradicted himself 🤦‍♀️

Rainbowshit · 01/04/2024 13:46

They don't have parliamentary privilege at Holyrood, however they do have some protections against defamation. I'm not sure racism would be covered though. 🤔

To be pedantic, he was Justice Minister, not First Minister, at the time of the speech.

Basically, the woman interviewed was saying, it's up to the police to interpret, based on their two hour training . Shambolic. Justin trying to drill down into specifics, not much forthcoming.

She also said that they’ve been working on a “Misogyny Bill” since 2021 but wasn’t able to say why this bill couldn’t have been part of the new Act.

So when is this “Misogyny Bill” due to become law and why is it taking so long? Are they arguing over the definition of “woman”?

CHEESEY13 · 01/04/2024 13:49

Has Scotland gone back about 400 years and made John Knox the Minister for the Monstrous Regiment?

FrancescaContini · 01/04/2024 13:51

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2024 13:48

Oh ok. Nevertheless, not a bad position to be holding.

Luckily for him his own speech wasn’t prophetic otherwise he wouldn’t be FM now.

RethinkingLife · 01/04/2024 14:26

Not really because the report is being compiled by Baroness Helena TWAW Kennedy. As far as she's concerned there is no argument about the definition because everyone is a woman if they say so. (I paraphrase.)

She is such a bloody let down, that woman.

Don't forget to copy in Director General Tim Davie who says he never gets emails about this issue.

So will men be able to claim they’re victims of misogyny? 😵‍💫

Forwarder · 01/04/2024 14:41

I caught some of it. Peter Tatchell getting a free ticket from the BBC to sound oh-so-reasonable.

Lickspittle BBC journo cringing and wringing his hands - the Scottish govt just wants to make Scotland a happier place to live.

As for the Aussie woman. Is she Diedre Brock?

All these Hate Crime laws are chilling. Not just in Scotland, but as ever Scotland is ahead of the totalitarian progressive curve.

Forwarder · 01/04/2024 14:43

Yes of course any misogyny hate crime laws will include la dy me n. The first step is to enforce mandatory pronouns of the 'her penis' variety first.

FrancescaContini · 01/04/2024 14:39

Yes. At the same time as reporting selves as victims of transphobia etc. There may well be competition for the greatest number of NCHI points available for any one incident.

Just wanted to say Chapeau to Justin for pressing the woolly brained MSP at 8.10 this morning. His questioning revealed a minister not on top of her brief, and who uttered misinformation (e.g. that voting for the bill was unanimous- it wasn't - it was something like two thirds that voted for it). Justin's questioning refused to accept the waffle and evasions and he is to be congratulated.
