Brown is Minister for Community Safety, reports to Justice Secretary, so should have a grasp of the issue.

Expecting a Scottish government minister to have a grasp on their brief is a bit much. Or indeed a grasp on reality.

But I'm sure the above is sarcasm on Arabella's part.

What time, roughly, was it?

It starts a couple of minutes before the OP’s first post.

He was great.

I nearly fainted when Tatchell said women needed more protection, I wondered if he was about to say “April Fool”.

I’m sure he didn’t mean all women

Tatchell’s very good at mixing reasonable with unreasonable. I don’t trust him.

I haven't listened to it yet! But yes I would expect a Minister in the Justice department to have an understanding of a new law.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 01/04/2024 10:03

Was wondering if women’s hour would bother. No it’s country singing.

Teddleshon · 01/04/2024 10:03

Love Justin Webb. As an aside I would really recommend his book “The Gift of a radio “. It’s a really touching, funny and engaging read. He had a difficult childhood.

Surprised to hear Peter Tatchell offered up to criticise the Act. Good questioning from Justin Webb of the Scottish Gov rep
Q “why weren’t women included?”
A “we needed to do more work”
Q “but you didn’t need to do more work did you?”

Why weren’t women included? Baffling!

Budge up everyone, the ferret is reversing!

NotBadConsidering · 01/04/2024 10:08

Tatchell likes to freely speak about certain topics, that’s for sure.

He also likes to ingratiate himself to people occasionally to gloss over his, er, shall we say, less savoury opinions.

We dont know what tatchell is imagining when talking about women, or even female.

Cailin66 · 01/04/2024 11:12

What is the White speech?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2024 11:20

I think he said there were too many white people or something.

What is the White speech?

Yousouf made a speech in which he listed high up positions in Scotland and for each he said that the person holding the position is White. I haven’t heard the whole speech for context, but in the section with the “white” rhetoric I can understand people thinking he sounded prejudiced against white people.

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2024 11:27

For context, 95.4% of Scottish people record their ethnicity as 'white'.

Not bovvering.

So can I complain about him? I'm not in Scotland, but the 'racially' motivated comment was committed in Scotland ............

And I'm white, so I can be insulted, I don't actually care, 'coz I can't be bothered about nonsense, but it's still insulting all the same.

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2024 11:41

Sorry, wrong link.

'It’s important to report hate crime whether you are affected personally, or if you witness someone else being targeted. For example, you could be a friend, neighbour, family member, support worker or a passer-by.
You should tell the police if you think it happened because of disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. It may even be a combination of these things. This is important as it tells us that it could be a hate crime.
If something happens and you are not sure if it is a crime, please remember, if it feels wrong, report it and let us help.'
