Can't see an existing thread about this.

Just when I think they couldn't stoop any lower in their actual contempt for women, they give this idiot a peerage. Philip Davies, MP for Shipley. Mens Rights Activist and antifeminist.

Here are some articles about him:

I'm actually shocked at the brazenness of how they display their contempt for women, whilst simultaneously courting our votes because "at least the Conservatives know what a woman is".

Why not talk about Labour's treatment of Rosie Duffield. Is that what caring about women's right looks like?
Yes the Tories are shits. Labour are way worse.

A knighthood isn’t a peerage.

Agreed, it's a title rather than a role. Committees tend to have a number of people with titles, the HoL would need to be x10 the size or more if it included people with titles/honours.

He’s my MP. Ghastly man, can’t wait for the GE. Don’t much fancy the Labour candidate but needs must…

🤣 of course they are. Nothing wrong with giving an mra an honour. Silly feminist me.

I don't understand about peerages to be honest. I still think it's a bit outrageous to Knight him. It looks like the Conservatives are in favour of his anti-woman views.

Only one party is not going to destroy the category of woman. Labour can f#£k off to the far end of f#£k. As can any apologist who thinks that Rosie Duffield hasn't been abysmally treated.

Davies is apalling. His knighthood, and those of various cronies and donors, are in the true tradition of "honours" which was originally about doing a favour for the monarchy.

Since brute force stopped being in demand, it's mostly been about giving money or getting rid of some embarrassing problem.

You're in the next constituency to me. Everyone I know who lives in Shipley can't wait to get rid of Philip Davies.

I see Sunak gave a knighthood to Christopher Chope as well. That's a party with women's interest at heart?

Well, that's the great advantage of a secret ballot, isn't it. I remember a friend who worked in the City being very despondent after the General Election in April 1992 because she said she'd been talking to all her colleagues about how desperately we needed the Tories out and they all said 'Oh yes, C, quite agree, yes, of course we'll vote Labour'. What with that and the opinion polls she really thought Labour would win, but they didn't, and we had five more years of the Tories. I think her colleagues were fobbing her off. They didn't want to pay more tax and NIC, they didn't care about public services because they weren't really using them, but they couldn't be bothered to argue the case with her.

AdamRyan · 30/03/2024 20:10

I think a lot of people vote for the party rather than the candidate hence why some proper plonkers win. Part of democracy I guess

I work in the NHS and am always amazed at how many of my colleagues vote Tory. One member of our team “loves” Boris Johnson…
