Leaked emails reveal child gender service concerns https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-68657571

No not those leaks. Don't be daft.

At the bottom there's a link to charities, one of which is stonewall. Angry

Why are the bbc still treating this as LGBT rather than medical?

It also sounds like a mess. But the article is clearly biased

It was at the top of the app around 6 am but has now disappeared; I had to search for it

They report on some dull emails but miss the WPATH SOC with the Eunuch links being hosted on an NHS site?!

Newnamepls · 26/03/2024 07:12

Thanks OP. I saw this this morning and (stupidly) thought they’d finally covered WPATH, but no. Also very irritated by this article, I don’t understand how they can cover this without mentioning any of the other issues - the potential harms, the WPATH files, the high rates of co-morbidities etc. And for all the linked to be very affirmative focused / totally biased one way is ridiculous. Guess I’d better send another complaint to the bbc.

ArabellaScott · 26/03/2024 07:13

'Bias by omission' is bang on. It's outrageous!

fiskalita · 26/03/2024 07:14

BBC is absolutely captured. They run so many pro trans stories. I guess the bosses are too afraid of the TRAs to put a stop to it? It's a joke of a news channel.

WarriorN · 26/03/2024 07:27

C and p Cath Lengs thread:

This is the big BBC exclusive, the story apparently worth more than the first clinician conference on ‘gender affirmation’ harms, the enraged mob protests that tried to shut it down, and the terrifying revelations from deep inside scandal-hit WPATH.

The unfolding medical horror of what has been perpetrated on children and young people is brushed aside in favour of a story about continuity concerns.

There’s a dossier (sic) of emails from Tavistock staff, who don’t want the Tavistock shut down, complaining about it.

"Front page, of course.

This is the kind of story you do when you’ve covered all the others. When you’ve written about puberty blockers, spoken to detransitioners, spoken to whistleblowers like David Bell and Sonia Appleby and Susan Evans about the dangers of affirmation, and/"

Continuity of care is a decent story. When that, and waiting lists, are the only stories you touch/

/when the fears of affirmative staff are elevated above those of sceptical staff, you’re misleading your audience, you’re hiding one side.

Two things can be true at the same time: children shouldn’t be left high and dry, and impartial news outlets shouldn’t do bias by omission/

We know that a BBC camera team was there on Saturday, gathering pictures and speaking to people. We know, therefore, that the BBC was well aware of in advance of the unique importance of the CANSG conference. We know that had it not been for the BBC’s /

/ludicrous rules of fear-driven uber-scrutiny for stories that gender activists don’t like, the BBC had the time and teams who could write it up, even voice it up, despite events in Moscow.

Sky and ITV were similarly uninterested, they aren’t off the hook./

Does the primacy of affirmation prevent them understanding that they’re fully chopping off their journalistic noses?

Never mind the position any of us takes on this: they are all missing great, important, valuable stories, and that means their audiences, we, are being cheated.

From an insider: ‘If you relied on BBC news alone your view of this whole topic would be so utterly utterly warped’

Cancelled appointments and lack of continuity are NHS normal practice.

Is this story worth ignoring WPATH and @CanSG_org ?

Not in a million years. No.

Unfortunately the bosses are TRAs.

ArabellaScott · 26/03/2024 08:32

Tim Davies maybe hasn't been getting enough emails lately.

fiskalita · 26/03/2024 08:32

I do not understand how any grown up person with responsibilities can be a tra.

Boiledbeetle · 26/03/2024 08:47

Where's the balance and impartiality in that article? They seem to be missing in action

CantDealwithChristmas · 26/03/2024 08:55

Bias by omission is bang on. It's impossible to claim that the BBC are fulfilling their charter obligation to neutrality when they ignore a major development in a story and cynically promote a non-story which enforces trans ideology.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/03/2024 09:12

The emails are the dying roar from the extreme transactivist medics who are finally being removed from being able to influence child healthcare. Although it's painfully slow, placing care of children in children's hospitals where evidence and research are fundamental, removes many opportunities for activist medics, so they're moaning. And of course the trans captured BBC gives them a platform.

Gettingmadderallthetime · 26/03/2024 09:21

Well its not news is it. An organisation is due to close at the end of the month. The senior managers did not want it to close (although it was in its existing form found to be inadequate on several important levels). There appears to have been a lot of obstruction in setting up the replacement service. Not a surprise. The roll out of the replacement is delayed and imperfect. Not a surprise. Time for an article heavily contributed to by the senior management criticising the roll out and the replacement. Link in article to all the sources of further information that are not critical about the existing regime. Not a surprise because it reads like it was written by/for the existing regime.

ANY organisation could be substituted in that para. Any at all. I don't think that anyone reading or hearing about this will think that its shocking or news. They may want to know why the move into a replacement service has been so delayed and uncertain. This could be at least partly be laid at the door of using the old team at GIDS to help create the replacement, which seems to have created infighting (that old/current team still think they were doing it right). https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/04/14/tavistock-gender-clinic-medics-training-their-replacements/

The BBC is not going to change until they get rid of their LGBT and Identity correspondent. It is a position demanded by Stonewall.
