So much sunlight.
Including:
TW verbally attacking and filming a women who objected to male in female toilets.
TM trying to humiliate retail worker because the tampon packet had pink and purple colours on it, thus wasn’t acceptable as the TM needed the “tampons for men”.
Doritos TW debacle.
DM.
Multiple female basket basketball players injured by TW.

(Sky News - but who else is prepared to discuss it?)

Only got part way through. How does anyone believe it is ok to act in these ways?!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/03/2024 07:20

And yet these are the people politicians/civil service/financial institutions /NHS/media are falling over themselves to placate and elevate

OxoCubeEnthusiast · 25/03/2024 07:22

The truth will out! Ahhh the glorious sunlight! Thanks for this OP.

Let's hope the tide really is turning.

I got about half way through. While all those cases are disgusting behaviour I’m not a fan of the clustering presentation. It reminds me of X posts showing black people behaving badly.
I avoid using race to make women’s rights arguments because we’ve been asked not to but it’s just too similar for me to overlook.

Headlining this article as trans tantrums is belittling the issue.

I’m not articulate enough to explain why, but it seems wrong to me.

It’s punching down. That said, maybe in Australia it’s necessary because I gather it’s a bit like Canada for having captured government.

Sorry but it's not punching down its punching up.
As for the rest of your post talk about calling women racist without calling us racist.
Oh and calling the violent intimidation tactics as trans tantrums is a kind understatement

pickledandpuzzled · 25/03/2024 08:03

Ah, no. Not calling women racist! I teeter about on the fence trying to listen to what other women say. Some black women have expressed very clearly that they dislike being used in women’s rights discussions about trans issues. Akin to people with DSDs not wanting TRAs to rope them in.

This particular video was really reminiscent of some nasty stuff that’s landed in my twitter feed, which is why I mentioned it. That said this video was clearly marked as what it is, unlike the racist videos I’ve accidentally watched.

I would be calling me racist, not women, as I’m the one who raised it.

I’m solidly gender critical and staunchly defend our right to discuss sex based rights here, get frustrated with the pretzels we have to use to talk about men in women’s spaces and frequent flyers through Malaga etc.

I just disliked the premise of this video. Clustering a bunch of videos of ‘trans people behaving badly’. What’s the difference between this and a similar selection of ‘Karens behaving badly’ videos? That would be offensive, right?

Hoardasurass · 25/03/2024 08:33

@pickledandpuzzled you do realise that it's the TRAs that are using both DSDs and black women against their wishes not gc women.
You are implying that it's women doing this and drawing false equivalence between showing the common tactics and behaviour of TRAs and racism

Speaking as a black woman, I think @Hoardasurass is correct - black people are the "women" not the "men" in this analogy. And yes I do get tired of TRAs saying that accepting black women as women is the same mental process as accepting men as women.

I realise that the TRAs have all sorts of nasty tactics, including some extraordinarily racist attitudes, yes. I also realise that black women on this forum have said they find white women suddenly caring about them in the context of this one issue, offensive.

Note- it was me who did that in my post, hence my observation that perhaps I shouldn’t. It was not an accusation made of anyone else, it was an acknowledgment that I may be offending.

I’m not talking about TRA tactics at all. I’m expressing my discomfort with this particular video- which is an acceptable response, we don’t all have to agree on everything.

Can you explain why this is different to a compilation of ‘Karen’s behaving badly’? I’d find that really offensive and misogynistic, and it’s colouring my response to this trans tantrums video.

Note- the behaviour drawn attention to is appalling. Totally agree. I find the TRA movement narcissistic and childish- but also dangerous. Tantrums may not be the right word for it, but it suits.

IcakethereforeIam · 25/03/2024 09:47

Watched a bit of it, if anyone wants to avoid Mulvainey's song skip to 7.45, what struck me was the glee in the first bloke's voice. He was thrilled as he pursued that woman down those corridors. Most vulnerable my arse.

I’m sorry I don’t understand. Which analogy? I was apologising for bringing racist videos into a discussion that isn’t about race, because people have complained about it in the past, that’s all.

I’m now confused. I am still uneasy with that video, and have obviously explained my discomfort badly.

I agree on women’s rights, agree on TRA bad behaviour, like the sunlight. Not keen on this particular presentation of the behaviour. Don’t expect everyone to agree with me.

I’m not sure why the above is annoying @Hoardasurass .

Abso bloody lutely! Entitlement personified. I hope she doesn’t suffer any repercussions for it.

Side note, ‘hostelle’ is a new pronunciation on me!

I meant that it's not punching down, it's punching up. That the compilation is like a compilation of white people being racist. Men doing bad things to women because they are more powerful societally.

If the video was about American "Karens" behaving badly, the fact that they are women would be of little relevance, because the Karen stereotype is essentially of a racist. So it would be the same type of video compilation - members of the more powerful group dumping on the less powerful.

If it was a compilation of "Karens" opposing GI, in other words, just middle-aged women who have peaked, that would be analogous to black people speaking out about racism. I'm on my phone, typing with one finger so being brief, but I hope I have explained my thinking.

Hoardasurass · 25/03/2024 10:31

@pickledandpuzzled my problem is that you are falsely implying that women are being racist and using black women and people with DSDs in this argument when it's the TRAs who do it not us. You also claim that women complaining about men's behaviour towards women is women punching down.
Basically your posts are various versions of davao. And I'm fed up of women being blamed for the behaviour of men

I kind of see what you are trying to say I think. It’s not punching down though as trans people are not a marginalised demographic. Some trans people may be vulnerable due to age, mental illness, being female but not “trans” as a group

pickledandpuzzled has been listening to black women like me who say it feels exploitative for white women to use us in arguments, against drag performances, for example, while not bothering with us and our issues the rest of the time. It is particularly insulting to be ignored, and even accused of being TRAs, when we make this request. There are many arguments against drag. There’s no need to bring black people into the conversation at all.

I can understand that however I'm not talking about the "womenface/blackface " discussions about drag queen's which I understood to have stopped after being asked, but the "transwomen are women just like black women" mantra from the other side.
What I do object to (loudly) is racism and misogyny.
When it comes to the issues of black women call me nieve but other than racism are there any issues that only affect black women and not any other group of women (genuine question not ment to be goady)?

Oh, they get off on it, always have.

pickledandpuzzled · 25/03/2024 13:07

I wasn’t in any way implying women were being racist. I said I dislike compilations designed to highlight bad behaviour from a specific group- I have recently seen a lot clearly designed to fuel racist hate, along with ones aimed at middle aged/older assertive women calling them Karen’s.

To be clear, I’m not talking about the (generally from the states) ones where white women are making unreasonable accusations about black people. I’m talking about targeting women who raise complaints of any kind portray all women as harridans- the Sybil trope.

And while all the people in the trans tantrums video were punching down, the presenters were also punching down at the badly behaved minority group the video was targeting.
