I'm astounded at this "bonus episode" of "and things fell apart."

Absolutely everything Glinner has said has been proven.

This is a twitter link, I imagine it's on bbc sounds

The victim blaming is immense

Don’t think I can bear to listen to it. So disappointed in both of them.

It's on bbc sounds

"He went too far and lost everything"

No.

He was perfectly reasonable and it's everyone else who vilified him, just as has happened to many others.

I've listened to the relevant clip and no I can't listen to the episode right now.

Do your job as an investigative journalist ffs. Glinner did it better than you, but it was the 'wrong sort of journalism' and they came for him.

Weird that they've decided to go all in now when the tide is turning.

AmaryllisChorus · 17/03/2024 09:34

"He went too far" - standing up against an immensely popular, oppressive regime isn;t going too far. It is showing immeasurable courage.

I hope Linehan is on here and reads how often his bravery is appreciated.

Most of us - myself included - are just too cowardly to say in public what we really feel and think. I'd be scared of losing many friends, my children's affection and respect - and their presence in my life. I'd be scared of losing my job and never finding another. I'd be scared of deeply upsetting the trans teens I know and care for, like and respect.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 17/03/2024 09:36

I very much look forward to the day that we're all enjoying the major bio-pic. 'Glinner' and perhaps comparing it to its rival film, (inevitably released around the same time), 'Posie'.

Both will probably arrive on the heels of a British film about a plucky women called Maya.

These privileged men are utter tools and embarrassing themselves.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 17/03/2024 09:39

And thank you again to Graham. You became a personal hero in my twenties because of your monumental writing talent. You became a hero again in my 50s for your decency, bravery and compassion.

EasternStandard · 17/03/2024 09:39

I haven’t listened but I’m not surprised by Ron Johnson

I don’t know the other one

If you’re invested in the ideology you’ll talk about it from that angle

I cannot wait for these voices to be critiqued

Weird that they've decided to go all in now when the tide is turning.

Utterly bizarre.

It’s just weird to listen to JRs breathy “concerned” voice in the same week that the PM programme actually allowed Dr Bell to say precisely what the situation is (reprising what he said a couple of years ago on the Nolan Stonewall podcast that the BBC would not actually broadcast on air)

The label “trans kids” should just not be used. Dr Bell’s use of “gender distress” was so clearly explained that any attempt to smear Glinner as “falling down a weird rabbit hole” for being concerned about what has been done to children just doesn’t work any more. And Newsnight/Kirsty Walk owes Glinner an apology.

fiskalita · 17/03/2024 09:40

I've absolutely no interest in Jon Ronsons views on anything since he misrepresented that man (who dresses
up as a woman) David Warfield, who murdered two women and their son.

He's a TRA and beneath my contempt.

Villagetoraiseachild · 17/03/2024 09:41

He had to go so far because so many retreated.
Or he chose to, because he has a moral compass that works.

(Not even going to bother to listen to these twunks.)

Happy St Patrick's Day Glinner, if you're reading this.

3RingCircus · 17/03/2024 09:42

I feel so disappointed. For some reason I really thought Adam Buxton would be on side with this.

They're Chastising Glimmer for standing up to the truth. Gross.

WarriorN · 17/03/2024 09:43

Looking forward to the bbc commissioned series with a prime time morning slot entitled

"The Great Deflect: how the media ignored the biggest medical scandal and safeguarding failure in recorded history."

No wonder Hannah Barnes left the bbc.

She knew the big shit was coming and she wanted to be able to report on it.

And avoid bs like this.

Buxton is particularly awful.

He retells a situation where @glinner asked to go on his podcast to discuss it and Buxton says he

"couldn't see a way for it to be useful, to be productive, there was no enlightenment to be had and this conversation is totally zero sum"

Sorry, off topic but I've just realised that Mumsnet uses Suffragette colours!
Op post is in green, other people's posts are in white and personal posts are in 💜 purple.
Even Sunday is a school day on MN....

I listened to this yesterday. They didn't mention who they were talking about, or the topic and obviously both know the person well personally.
It was pretty obvious who they were talking about if you are on here but I would not have known who it was otherwise. And I thought what they said was fine. People are allowed opinions and concerns about their friends drastically changing their behaviour in a short period.

I am sure there are people out there with a vested interest in discrediting Ronson but his series' of Things Fell Apart are excellent in my opinion. They've certainly opened my eyes to a lot of fringe beliefs that motivate certain posts.

Velvian · 17/03/2024 09:53

I like both Jon Ronson's and Adam Buxton's output. I think Jon Ronson is careful and nuanced and empathic, although (of course) not always right. Adam Buxton is thoughtful, but not always aware of his own biases, particularly when with Louis Theroux, there is a regression to some teenage behaviour, including misogyny.

They only skirted around the issue and the person they were referring to, but I think they are right that Graham Linehan went too far. While I agree with a lot of what he says, I think his force and one track mindedness has been detrimental to raising legitimate concerns.

I recommend Kirsty Young's interview with Grayson Perry on BBC Sounds, that was encouraging and refreshing.

AdamRyan · 17/03/2024 09:54

Why are people calling him Ron Johnson BTW? It's Jon Ronson Confused

EasternStandard · 17/03/2024 09:56

😂 at name

Ah but I loves the colours!
Cannot believe I have just clocked this!

Speaking of which, the subject in hand, Glinner v Twunks, has revealed so many in their true colours. It's a kind of shibboleth.

Was thinking last night I am so grateful not to be a very young person in all of this mass delusion. It would have really messed me up. And grateful to MN for allowing me to unscramble my brain from the propaganda manoeuvres and disinformation.

MidsomerMurmurs · 17/03/2024 10:00

@Velvian I think Jon Ronson is careful and nuanced and empathic, although (of course) not always right.

I don’t think there’s ever a time when JR doesn’t think he’s right! He’s utterly vacuous and incapable of even thinking he might have the wrong end of the stick. File him in the faux-naive category along with Louis Theroux.
