Not sure how to give a non paywall link (maybe someone can update the thread?!)

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/0/trans-athletes-sharron-davies-caitlyn-jenner/

Telegraph brought together Sharon Davies (new book coming out - called Unfair Play) and Caitlyn Jenner (was Bruce Jenner - Decathlon Gold 1976 - men)

Quote from Caitlyn:

‘Let me explain – I am biologically male, OK? I’m XY. There’s nothing I can do to change that. If you believe in gender dysphoria, and I think most people do realise it’s not a disease, it’s a mental condition, just like some people are left-handed and some people are right-handed, it’s kind of the way you’re born and I’ve dealt with it my entire life.

‘I consider myself a trans person, I am still genetically male, I changed all of my ID right down to my birth certificate so technically yes, I am female, but on the other hand I know I’m not.
(my bold...)

Possibly one of the most realistic statements I have seen...

Good to see this out in the public domain - a realistic and honest assessment of the issues for women in sport by two people who might be seen as being on opposite sides of the debate, but are in agreement...

In an exclusive interview, female sport's biggest advocates unite to address what the International Olympic Committee tries to shy away from

More honest than most, but Jenner definitely is not, technically or in any other way, female.
I'd love to read the article if there is a free version.

I think that Jenner realises that he / she / ??? is not female in any way - but is referring to the legal view as a way of showing that while the world considers Caitlyn to be female, Caitlyn knows that you can't change biological sex so is not...

Bloody hell, Jenner is older than I am! I had no idea.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 15/03/2024 15:47

Caitlyn has done a lot for women's sport and speaks great sense about it. Good article

Well, all I can say is that I don't consider Jenner to be female and I'm betting that I am not alone. CJ made excellent points and I like the way CJ accepts Bruce - couldn't really disown him, he was so famous, I suppose. But however much I agree with the stance CJ has taken, it does not make CJ an honorary female. The law is an ass. CJ remains a male person with a self-confessed penchant for Malaga Airport.

‘More women need to stand up like you,’ says Jenner. ‘Current athletes, retired athletes.
No. More people need to stand up like the women who are already standing up. More men. More people like Jenner - trans identifying people.

Why, yet again, is men's behaviour women's problem to solve?

Excellent article! Thanks for sharing.

Shame they didn't ask them their views on sharing changing rooms as well...

I assume the focus was on sport participation as presumably that is the subject of Sharon Davies’s book and she is launching it at the Telegraph book festival

"Honorary female", oh I'm stealing that.

Gagagardener · 15/03/2024 23:13

Shout-out for Sharron Davies. Her chance of a gold at the Olympics was taken away by the doping East Germans and the pusillanimous IOC. Now, decades on, she is trying to ensure today's young female swimmers don't lose their moment of glory.

Sorry, but left-handed and right-handed isn't a mental condition. It can't be changed just by thinking differently. It's something you are, not something you 'feel', which is what being trans is.
