Recommendations for an up-to-date book about UK politics

Can anyone recommend an up-to-date textbook (maybe A level sort of standard) that I can read to understand about the internal workings of the UK and the home nation's politics? I'm learning about things piecemeal and I'd like a bit more structure. Something that includes everything from elections to private members' bills would be ideal.

My political history 1970s 'O Level' covered Gladstone, Disraeli, and the Boer Wars, dry as dust and not at all useful now. 🙄

get the Spectator and Prospect instead. They are superb

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll sign up for a free trial of Prospect and I'll see how it goes - but what I'm really wanting is something in book form that gives an impartial and structured overview of the workings of the whole parliamentary machine. I thought an A level type text book might suit.

You could visit www.hansardsociety.org.uk/

It has everything but it isn't perfectly organised.
