Do my eyes deceive me or has the Guardian published two reasonable, balanced articles on sex/gender issues in the past few days?

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2024/mar/13/government-guidance-treatment-transgender-pupils-england-poses-legal-risks-unions

https://amp.theguardian.com/society/2024/mar/12/children-to-stop-getting-puberty-blockers-at-gender-identity-clinics-says-nhs-england

Both mention Sex Matters, in a neutral, respectful way. What is happening?

Guidance on treatment of transgender pupils poses legal risks, say unions

Teachers and school leaders in England call government proposals vague, leaving them vulnerable to losing court cases

Parallel universe?

Realises the ship is slowly turning around?

coureur · 14/03/2024 09:33

Well, one is by the education editor and the other by the health policy editor. So written by people with an actual reporting background, as opposed to opinion columnists like Owen Jones.

It is interesting though that no newspapers or public figures (yet) are rising up to say the NHS is wrong, explain why, and call for this decision to be overturned.

theremustbecake · 14/03/2024 11:39

Good. I'm still not buying a subscription until they admit they've been gaslighting everyone.

Don't be silly, a newspaper just reports the news, they don't spout opinions like that! Ok, so they have been gaslighting and bullying women who tell the truth for years vocally supported the most marginalized.

Phew, wasn’t it lucky for Freddy that the appointment at the fertility clinic was made almost before the ink on the GRC was dry.

I'm wondering whether this statistic is correct, from the second article:
'Fewer than 100 children and young people are taking puberty blockers.'

I think I've read elsewhere that around 100 children have been prescribed blockers since the guidelines changed. Does that ring any bells with anyone?

Froodwithatowel · 16/03/2024 15:23

Yes, I saw that the other day. That the 100 is the number of children put onto blockers since the guidelines changed. Quite possibly rushed there before the door closed. No reference to the number of children in total who are currently taking them.

Also a review of Judith Butler’s new book today, having a swipe at basically anyone who has the temerity to criticise her or her work.

The Graun remains a total basket case. unless the entire current management is swept out it will always be so.
