Ah well @ArabellaScott, I didn't say I'd read the New Scienctist with pleasure and definitely not use my red pen on it, and certainly not compose snotty emails to the editor.
I just rewatched RMW on last Sunday's Free Speech Nation:
Andrew Doyle: What is gender identity?
RMW: We've moved to gender incongruence, people prefer it
(This is not any sort of answer to AD's question)
RMW goes on to describe feelings of immense discomfort presenting to the world as male when young.
AD: Is it based on stereotypes of gender - dressing & acting a certain way etc? What is it?
RMW: No, not at all. There's essence of male or female.
AD: An essence?
RMW: If you met me in the west country, you'd most likely find me in jeans, gardening
(I'm still struggling to understand what is meant by this, coming from Robin).
AD: It's not about the way you look?
RMW: No, it's not about a particular thing. But there is maleness and femaleness.
(Agreed, but they both refer solely to biology).
RMW then goes on to ignore AD's statement that he doesn't have a gender identity, insisting that in AD the two elements of identity and physicality match. At the end RMW crowns it all by saying you have to listen to people.
Oh, Robin. Try listening to yourself once in a while.
