'dyke identifying' is an offensive new one for me. It stands to reason that such an (ahem) artist would be au fait with gender ideology.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/snp-quango-gave-public-money-to-porn-masquerading-as-art/ sorry archive.ph seems to be having a moment.

It's not an insignificant sum of money. The ferrets are reversing. But how can they justify bunging someone so much money without knowing precisely what it would be spent on. And, if I understand correctly, they'd already paid for and seen a taster.

When this masterbate, sorry, masterpiece is...erm...finished. The audience will be told to remove their shoes. I'd hate to think what they're stepping in.

SNP quango gave public money to ‘porn masquerading as art’

Artist Leonie Rae Gasson received £110,000 to create short hardcore sex film described as ‘harmful and abusive’

Another article gives a little insight into the frankly bizarre decisions by Creative Scotland on who gets grants. Remake of an iconic Scottish movie by a Scottish cast and crew to be filmed in Scotland...no...fuck off...oh well here's a grand. Porno by an English private school alumni...take my (well taxpayer's) money.

Creative Scotland funded sex show but turned down Whisky Galore remake

Questions over why an art installation featuring ‘non-simulated’ sex got Creative Scotland funding yet reboot of Whisky Galore! got nothing.

The BBC reporting on the lying liars

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ceqq04v75p9o

Also has a timely reminder on one of Gasson's previous works in which teenagers and a child make sex toys from items taken from the audience.

I'll say this for Gasson she seems to have a problem with boundaries but she seems to have been honest about this. Compared to Creative Scotland who's lies only bought them time as foi would and have inevitably brought the truth to light.

Gasson also, within her own moral universe, seems to have given thought to the wellbeing of her cast. Or perhaps consulted a lawyer to make sure her arse was, metaphorically, covered.

Culture secretary demands answers on explicit art show

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson says he is "deeply concerned" about documents obtained by BBC Scotland News.

This is not art but utter bullshit. Funded because the “art” is produced by a “queer” woman.

Also, actors are getting £270 a day - even assuming 12 actors for four days each is less than £12,500 - where’s the rest of the money gone? I bet it will be art/film students conscripted in for peanuts (and CV enhancement) working on production and the rest to the “talented, creative, free thinking” Leonie - I would love to see a breakdown of projected costs.

I have no problem with spending on the arts but there must be accountability and surely an installation unavailable to youth/children due to explicit content is not a good use of public money.

Oh, and also - who wants to enjoy porn in a communal space? Urgh. Vile.

redalex261 · 21/05/2024 18:37

Neurodivergent dramaturgy?? body-themed practictioners?? LMAO.

'Creative Scotland later said they had not realised the project involved real sex, but Rein's application acknowledged that development would involve "a sex scene with genital contact" involving three members of the cast.
It also stated that, where necessary, testing for sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) would be conducted before rehearsals.'

'Ms Gasson, who is from London and is based in Glasgow, was employed by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland until April and has worked with National Theatre of Scotland and the Tron Theatre.
Her previous work includes a project at the Traverse Theatre with Lyceum Youth Theatre involving "teenagers and a child" taking items from audience members' bags and making sex toys with them.'

Crikey, the BBC isn't holding back, for a change.

AuContraire · 22/05/2024 07:13

BBC Scotland does recently appear to be doing a slightly better job that we've otherwise come to expect from the wider BBC.

Another article in the Times

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/creative-scotland-pressure-funding-hardcore-sex-show-gc8v7vvjr

https://archive.ph/kgyGA daddy will see you past the paywall

Fuck's sake how was this ever considered for funding! Putting aside the lying liars and the sex, the odds of this going badly for one of the performers seems massive. The casting call seems likely to attract people with vulnerabilities, candidates for the Greens, the sexually incontinent and exhibitionists with no idea of boundaries. This would have been a terrible mix. And it just sounds shit.

Creative Scotland under pressure over funding for hardcore sex show

Newly published documents reveal that Creative Scotland was aware the publicly funded theatrical event was sexually explicit, prompting an urgent meeting with the agency leaders

Oh God - Telegraph readers are already reeling from learning about bonus holes, the male breastfeeding fetish, the cat killer while cheering on JKR. This might finish some of them off 😂

Have you ever watched The Elderly Rich Husband Helpline (I think it's on Tiktok but it may be FB only)?
He needs to recommend this article to his clients.

Yes. It sounds like a show that wants to test boundaries, alright. By deliberately subjecting vulnerable people to abuse for money and seeing what happens.

I suppose this is queer theory in action.

Winnading · 23/05/2024 17:41

I've read most of the links, I've gotta say its putrid, the whole thing is putrid.
And leonie needs some counselling immediately to even think this is right and to find out what in the hell happened in her life/childhood to come up with the concept with zero regard to who would participate and those who would watch.

Nothing necessarily happened to Leonie at all. Some people just have innately poor boundaries and an innate inability to predict the effects on other people. And if everyone else is running round thinking it's just cool and arty to be transgressive then the results can be - well, this.

All fun and games until someone loses an eye.

ArabellaScott · 23/05/2024 18:28

Leonie is a daft young woman from what I've read in interview. Shallow and self absorbed.

The problem really is the context in which this is fostered, funded, and lauded. At some point someone in CS should have said 'wtf, no'.

Shauny Boy nailing it again:

This is brilliant. He completely nails it. And honestly he hasn't even exaggerated any aspect of this at all. As a PP said, this is putrid. Utterly putrid.

OvaHere · 23/05/2024 21:08

This entire saga is completely WTF!

I thought the stuff about sex toys and teenagers was bad enough until I read that quote about trying to hire vulnerable and disabled people and deliberately causing them trauma.

All that money that could be used for good. What an obscene waste in more ways than one.

Hoardasurass · 30/05/2024 16:00

And in the latest instalment we have Mr Munro claiming that genital contact and the need for lube does not equate to non simulated sex🤔🤪
