Liz Truss crosses the golden bridge

It would seem that Liz Truss has joined us on the dark side with her private members bill, which will be introduced on Friday.😱
The bill would see sex defined as biological sex only, ban cross sex hormones for minors and potentially ban all males from female single sex spaces and sports.
Quite some turn around for someone who wanted to bring in legal self-id

Liz Truss - my trans Bill will protect children

Liz Truss is preparing to present a draft law that will challenge Rishi Sunak to ban the prescription of "body-altering hormones" to children "questioning their sex".

Can we agree NOT respond to a known thread hijacker. What could have been a really useful thread about the actul bill is being diverted by a repeated lie. Dont rise to the provocation.

ie I think what she is intending to do is ban trans women from EA-defined single-sex women's spaces

This is just complete BS. A quick google would show that. PP on this thread have shown this.

Could we please not encourage these whatabouterries. It is a waste of time and energy.

What makes the Truss bill particularly important is her proposed ban on medics prescribing puberty blockers to children under 18, will pick up the loophole from today's ban on them in the NHS. It will ensure that the grifting medics working for Gender GP etc will also be banned,

Making it even moore important to urge our MPs to vote for her bill.

Trans males aren't women, and can't participate in women's chess. They have to compete in the men's league.

In fact, transgender men who won in women's events before transitioning will have their titles abolished.

Excellent news. Although for clarity perhaps we should say TIM and TIF which is what I mean by trans males and trans females since no one ever changed sex.

Yes, so important!

My MP US Crispin Blunt, I'll still be writing to him though. I think I may write to Kier as well.

I would write to Blunt (rhyming slang) if only to annoy him.

As private members bills almost always are dependent on the Govt for support to pass into law, surely the first question is, will Sunak green-light this? I'd have thought almost certainly no.

He probably won’t, but he might, just to put Labour on a spike on this - what would Labour say in debates? How would they vote?

duc748 · 13/03/2024 00:32

Well, that would be good, if it happened!

IwantToRetire · 13/03/2024 00:56

Interesting that today the NHS appeared to agree with Liz Truss and announce that they would no longer prescribe puberty blocker for under 18s.

FelineGood76 · 13/03/2024 02:28

There ARE no "trans women and other women" because the two categories are opposites. Trans women are not ANY kind of women, they are male.
Males are not a subset of women.
Reality matters. There is no fucking "cisgender" either. Why are you allowed to use terminology which many women find offensive and yet we cannot use actual real descriptions like "trans identified male" which is nothing more than a fact?

WickedSerious · 13/03/2024 09:35

DadJoke · 12/03/2024 11:57

Are you seriously asking me why women-only events in male-dominated fields where there are no biological reasons for differences should exist? It increases women's representation in games and sports which have traditionally been dominated by men for sexist reasons. The inclusion of trans women (who are not inherently better than other women) does not threaten this in any way. Unless you are arguing that men are inherently better at chess? Every time I hit an EvPsych argument against women, there's a better cultural explanation. If there were as many women chess players as men, there's every chance that the amazing outliers could become champions.

Men believe that women (and girls) are not innately brilliant and therefore bad at chess, the resulting toxic attitudes drive women out, the participation gap increases, the top-level gap increases, and statistically challenged men believe even more that women are bad at chess. As in other arenas with brilliance culture and a stark participation gap, such as physics and computer science, this cycle is incredibly difficult to break. Yet, we must try. The Women in Chess initiative by the U.S. Chess Federation throws money and support behind tournaments that cater to girls and women. As Sarah-Jane Leslie explains, emphasizing the importance of hard work over brilliance might help prevent girls and women from dropping out. Projects like Not Particularly Beautiful forcefully call out biased statements and shine a light on the role that culture plays in keeping women out.

Men in frocks are not 'other women'.

Every time I see this I think that 'golden bridge' is what Tories cross when they finally cark it.

Froodwithatowel · 13/03/2024 12:39

Like the rainbow bridge but for capitalists?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/03/2024 12:42

yep

EasternStandard · 13/03/2024 12:43

What comes after that’s amazing? Anything?

Froodwithatowel · 15/03/2024 12:35

Braverman's the other day was in quite surprisingly blunt support of it.

coureur · 15/03/2024 13:26

Looks like it won't make it. They are still on the first bill of the session (the Animal Welfare bill) and Truss's bill was third on the agenda.

As much as I want society to take the welfare of animals seriously, I’d also like society to take the welfare of women, children and vulnerable adults very seriously too.

Thank you for the progress update Coureur

coureur · 15/03/2024 13:32

@UtopiaPlanitia oh, looks like they are moving on to the second bill so if this one is unopposed we might get to it. It's very rare to get to the third one.

coureur · 15/03/2024 13:38

Looks like Sarah Champion is settling in for the long haul with her Public Procurement Act. I'm sure she's very aware who is next on the agenda.
