Gender gap in tech reduces

As we know that transwomen are frequently found in tech, who wants to bet that it's not women being taken on that is closing the gap but lots of men suddenly being classed as women in the stats?

I'm not a betting person.

I'd still risk a fiver down William Hill's on that being the case but I suspect the bookies would have worked out the odds and they wouldn't be in my favour.

I'm as cynical as they come but I think there are more of the ordinary kind of women entering (say) software. My dh has been a software developer his whole adult life and there seem to be more women colleagues than there used to when he started out. No TW colleagues as far as I'm aware.

Purely anecdotal obvs

Keeping the details vague and unidentifiable.
My friend (female) is in tech. Still very much a minority in the company. She attended a workshop on women in tech and gender equality in the company. The lead speaker was a transwoman...

I work for a US tech company who is always wanging on about diversity and how to improve it (I am, and always have been, the only woman on my tech team, women in general are thin on the ground outside of marketing and HR). The lead of the DEI employee org is, of course, a she/her transwoman.

Not noticed any others but he gets constant big ups for representing and improving diversity 😒

This is outrageous. Just check the link with guidance about reporting gender pay gap by gov.uk

it says: “The gender pay gap regulations do not define the terms ‘men’ and ‘women’.”

what are they measuring then?

we are being taken fir a bigger ride than i thought! 😳

While I’m sure trans women screw the numbers a bit, I’ve seen more NB women in tech than trans women. Not sure how they count in the gender pay gap - would be surprised if companies didn’t find a way to put them into the “women” side.

I do think women in tech is increasing, though still increasing more on the softer side (e.g. web development) than the harder side (e.g. operating system architecture). We’re seeing more women on computing degrees and more girls taking computing A level too. But it doesn't mean there isn’t plenty of sexism to combat still at work and online in open source groups if you’re identifiably female. Big sub-cultures of misogyny are tightly integrated into tech.

I don't think you're entirely wrong but I also think there are now more actual women in tech as it gives great flexibility around having children as you can usually work from home and choose your hours.
