Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

To think this is a clear bit of film that all MP’s should watch, demonstrating why men in women’s sport is ludicrous?

American and sport based but the implication and consequences are clear.

Hopefully this stays as an AIBU rather than being either deleted or moved to another section.

Here we are again. Because there aren’t enough boys football teams for boys to join.

https://bnnbreaking.com/sports/fa-threatens-sanctions-on-west-riding-girls-football-league-for-excluding-boy-player

Well done West Riding! Male players who have gone through puberty have huge advantage over female players. It is also a safety issue. One ball flying wildly off that male players foot with male power behind it can seriously injure the skull of a female player.

Of course, we also have the school boys teams beating female Olympic champion football teams too. FA need to sort this out they are hiding behind that philosophical theory that is based on inclusion now and not prioritising the material reality of safety.

Glittertwins · 03/03/2024 07:50

Some of DS's friends at 14-15 were faster than Katie Ledecky, the best female distance swimmer in world for several years now. How is that fair for them to compete and beat her?

My son is a para swimmer.

He's actually quite good and swims to a good standard. He has dreams of paralympics.

They are classified on how their disability affects their body in the water compared to a AB swimmer. It's all about the science rather than physical presentation iyswim?

I always say how similar male and female sports categories are and that it makes no sense you can suddenly eradicate this because of how someone says they feel or want to dress or want to be called.

It still amazes me that para sport (so those with disabilities) seem to have more protection that sex based sport. Disability is usually the least protected/ considered characteristic.

Indeed. Even @Dotjones wasn't suggesting pitting Mark Phelps against Ellie Simmonds.

itsnotabouthepasta · 03/03/2024 11:12

For those who claim that there are no biological differences, I would ask the simple question why have women’s sports at all?

if Dina Asher smith competed against Usain Bolt in the 100m sprint - who would you expect to win and why?

the fact that people literally won’t answer that basic question of why is women’s sport there at all tells me they KNOW it’s a lie

If you don't accept physical differences between males and females then the only other reasons for women being consistently 10-15% slower than men across all the running distances are A) social factors and then men who have grown up without these factors at play still shouldn't be allowed to complete with the women who have B) you think women just don't try hard enough which is so insulting to women that you shouldn't be allowed near a female athlete let alone allowed to run with them.
The science is there male bodies are different to female one and lowering T after puberty doesn't impact most of those differences.

The FA banned women from playing from in the 1920’s.

No surprises they are happily letting males play in female teams today.

Another example of male misogynistic bull shit.

A website that compares the top results of boys' high school athletics with the results of female Olympians.

If boys are faster than elite female athletes, should males compete in female athletics?

See how the best high school boys stack up against the best female Olympians and World Record holders in Track & Field and Swimming.

AliceAforethought · 03/03/2024 13:28

Hmm, it's true that currently it's the decision of the sports' governing bodies and, in the UK at least, they seem to be making the right decisions as regards sex segregation. For now.

My worry is that under the inevitable upcoming Labour government those bodies will no longer be allowed to make such decisions as they'll be deemed discriminatory, and fall foul of whatever anti-women legislation they come up with.

AliceAforethought · 03/03/2024 13:29

Mumsnet you are ridiculous 🤬

99doshredballoons · Yesterday 18:18

It should not be their choice to allow men in women’s sports. That is why legislation is needed. Things have changed.

I agree, the situation is unsustainable, as it is. Different bodies can set the rules as they please and some seem frightened of being sued for discrimination against males, who enter female competitions by declaring themselves women.

Mixed categories are fine, if all participants agree to it, but women's and girls events should mean actual women and girls only, no trans males claiming to be female.

AlisonDonut · 03/03/2024 13:32

Ohhhh!!!! What the fck really are they playing at. As soon as it gets a bit ‘too’ strong (as it should), they move it from AIBU where everyone sees it easily. Almost a day in the open pasture now locked up, as per fcking usual.

Urgh thank you I wouldn’t have noticed. It is as predictable as men wanting to take over women’s spaces. As predictable as a 6ft 2 male hulk playing women’s rugby, injuring the female players. I wonder why they do it. Be deleted next. That’s the final step.

Exactly. Which is why it is critical to update the EA to include biological sex as a protected characteristic. Then they can have female sports biological females only, no arguments.

Labour won’t do that in a million years. They’re a disgrace. Starmer ‘thinks’ some women have schlongs, fcking hard ons. To play with on the sidelines, to hang out in the girls changing rooms. That’s what he’s saying. Not a chance I’ll vote for Labour whilst they’re like this.

The stupidest thing is that 95% of posters thought YWNBU, so it's ridiculous to pander to the tiny minority... but then pandering to the tiny minority describes this whole situation to a T.

It is notable that in the athletics results most of the events where the female Olympians would make the boys final are technique heavy field events where years of practice and coaching would mean the women have refined the skill of the event where as the boys would have fewer years in honing technique.

Coming to a boxing ring near you soon Tyson Fury v a 12 year girl.
Brought to you by Dotty Jones sports promotors, Dotty by name **ing dangerous by nature.

I think it's really unfair and restrictive that we insist on sports being for human only so I propose:

Lia Thomas v a great white

Emily Bridges v Francisco Bagnaia (on his Ducati)

Yes yes yes!

I’ll pay for the Ducati’s petrol. Come to think of it, I’ll sponsor the shark too.
