Neale Hanvey MP harassed in Parliament for being gay and respecting women

For a change it wasn't women MPs who were the main targets this time in the Conversion Therapy debate. The straight Tory MP Alicia Kearns decided the gays needed taking down for having an opinion on what homosexuality was.

Worth checking out the entire debate on the Conversion Therapy bill great contributions from Rosie, Tonia and Miriam Cates. Note not enough MPs voted to get the bill taken any further - it wasn't talked out at all.

The desperate claims of fillibusting are almost amusing when they needed 100 votes and only got 68.

I don't vote Alba because I no longer believe in Independance but Neal Hanvey has been superb on this issue.

Rightsraptor · 02/03/2024 09:51

I was watching the reading yesterday and I agreed with Alicia Kearns until she suddenly switched after hearing Hanvey say LBG. It was like someone pressed a button, as if she'd been trained to respond in such a way. She had said at the beginning that she didn't have a single LGBT etc etc person in her family and joked that it was probably the only such family in the land. They're probably just not telling you, Alicia.

As for all the lies about trans at the Stonewall riots - does she not know that's been debunked? By those who were there?

ResisterRex · 02/03/2024 10:00

Does anyone know what - if any - complaint can be made about the claims of filibustering? It's alarming that this claim would be made. We need our politicians to be honest. And stop with the blatant lies and weaponising of events when things don't go their preferred, imagined way.

I know they're not know for being honest but this is such a bare faced lie that I don't think it can be allowed to stand.

Another one saying it was filibustering, except this is from the media:

Good to see Brand being called out for the lie that his post was - it wasn't talked out - it was defeated. Is Brand as casual with the truth with all his other reporting for ITV?

"Once again, you’re allowing your personal views to colour your reporting.
This is not what journalists do. The bill was not filibustered. It’s incredible that a political editor would say it was. Do better"

OldCrone · 02/03/2024 10:56

Alicia Kearns didn't make any sense at all. She said that saying LGB instead of LGBT meant that he was saying that trans people don't exist and that they are 'lesser than other LGB people'.

But lots of trans people aren't LGB. Most middle aged males who transition are heterosexual.

Not including people who aren't LGB doesn't mean that they're 'lesser' or that they 'don't exist'. They're just not LGB.

As an aside, I've just realised how many spelling mistakes were in my last post 😬

Quite, @OldCrone, and the switch in what AK was saying at that point was odd, to say the least - suddenly all this black & white thinking and hyperbole. It had been, and generally was, a pleasantly rational discussion and the she popped up with her nonsense.

Russell Lloyd-Moyle, otoh, seemed far more reasonable than heretofore, and was happily giving way to others who wished to speak. I attended a recent zoom meeting with Tonia Antoniazzi and she said RLM now smiles at her!

I'm a huge fan of Neale and also Joanna Cherry. They talk so much sense.

This is the problem with governments, corporations and the media going all in with celebrating the identities of specific groups of people. People start to treat being not included as a personal insult which leads to either backlash or wanting to find a way to infiltrate something that was never for you.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with communities of people having their own celebrations. Back when pride was a community led event I don't think it led to the sort of FOMO we see now. It became an issue when every man and his dog started the bizarre, commercialised worship you see all year long.

Kearns is right in a way. A lot of people have got the message that they are lesser if they aren't included. Hence the ever expanding alphabet of letters.

Boiledbeetle · 02/03/2024 11:41

Why she thought having a go at a gay guy talking about LGB and admonishing him for not adding the sodding T is mind boggling.

Also, why is "elected officials" in quotes there? These people need to be much more responsible. MPs' safety is under threat as this last week or so has made abundantly clear. That's at least skirting a line of encouraging people to believe somehow Rosie wasn't elected.

Like a crocodile?

ResisterRex · 02/03/2024 16:42

There's now a community note on the ITV tweet

SinnerBoy · 02/03/2024 16:45

I saw it, I thought you meant a new one. I told him he was talking shite.

Runor · 02/03/2024 16:47

FFS, why shouldn’t the LGB community be allowed to have a voice which doesn’t include the T - their interests are often in conflict anyway, are lesbians LGB people just supposed to shut up and cede to the dominant T (ok, I do know the answer to that!)

Has someone upstairs had a quiet word with Mole I wonder.

Has someone upstairs had a quiet word with Mole I wonder.

Presumably the clip of him trying to intimidate Miriam Cates plus his spittle flecked ragings that were all over social media led somebody to recognise that he epitomised the transactivist technique perfectly.
Maybe Wes Streeting had a word?

Good on him. What that woman said to him the other day was so out of order!
