She will be a sad loss to WH but I'm very glad she will be able to expose this shit show to a prime time radio audience when she moves to the Today programme. Which often shapes the news agenda of the day.

PaterPower · 28/02/2024 10:58

Yes, caught a chunk of that in the car. She was excellent. The shadow Home Sec rather less so, IMO.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/02/2024 10:58

Oh, I hadn't heard she's leaving WH. Doubt I'll bother listening in future if that's the case.

Interview with YC is second item, about 10.15 and the Blake question 10.20 ish

nauticant · 28/02/2024 10:59

Cooper was trying to give out two different messages. That sex matters in terms of the criminal justice system but hedged about sufficiently so that if need be she can claim she didn't really mean that, or she meant "mostly".

What did people make of her mangled sentence in which she seemed to say that Blake had gone through a "gender recognition process"?

CriticalCondition · 28/02/2024 11:02

It was announced a couple of days ago. She's taking over from Martha Kearney who will leave later this year. I think the timing will be after the election, whenever that is.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/02/2024 11:03

Ah, thanks Nauticant. Martha's stepping down after the election so we've got EB for a while longer.

Well, she's wrong for a start. I'm sure I read during the trial it was made clear Blake has no GRC.

YC made several direct and indirect references to the GRA. Also at pains to distinguish between 'biological' sex and gender.

So I took it that she's reserving her position on 'legal' sex. Which is a massive fence sit.

afternoonoflife · 28/02/2024 11:08

That’s a shame about EB. If they don’t replace her with someone with proper chops then it’ll be a really pointless programme. On the plus side, with both EB and Justin Webb on Today, it could strengthen the coverage on there.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2024 11:09

Can't seem to access the programme on the BBC sounds app. Hopefully they will have it up soon. <pointed look at the BBC>

I’m pretty sure he hadn’t but even if he had isn’t it kind of a moot point when it comes to crime recording?

makeanddo · 28/02/2024 11:11

I think it was great EB raised this however YC dodged it really. It's very clear that Labour know they need to say biological sex is different to gender however imo they still believe TWAW and therefore should be treated as an actual women. If this wasn't the party line YC would have clearly stated that Scarlett should be in a men's jail and under Labour it would be recorded as a male crime. They are adjusting their language to try and get round what they actually believe (personally I think self id will come in very quickly under Labour which unfortunately) and to try and get out of answering questions clearly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2024 11:11

Not in practice, no. It should be. But some police forces are quite happy to say they report by self ID even, not sex.

Is she leaving? 😢

lanadelgrey · 28/02/2024 11:13

Watching an oil tanker turning, but Cooper is turning. The GRC is useless as no one can ask about it so neither here nor there unless Blake offered up voluntarily to someone during the whole case but even then it wouldn’t be referenced.
Barnett was good in honing in on stats and #notourcrimes

WH doesn't usually go up on Sounds until the next day.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2024 11:53

Ah ok thank you! Will listen when available

NoBinturongsHereMate · 28/02/2024 11:56

From the Mail article, WTF is neptunic?

HelenDamnation1 · 28/02/2024 11:57

Gutted Emma is leaving WH, but frankly she's too good for the pile of dick-pandering wank it's become. I'll be giving it up when she leaves.

CriticalCondition · 28/02/2024 12:04

The presenters who filled in while EB was on mat leave were dire. I hope the listener figures reflect that and they are pulling their fingers out looking for a worthy successor. I already give Fridays a miss. If they move Anita 'Fluffy' Rani into the main seat that's the end for me. And I've been listening for 30 years.

HelenDamnation1 · 28/02/2024 12:54

I agree! Even Noula McGoverrn (sp?) was tip-toeing around issues and treating us like idiots. Very #bekind 😡
