Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I think I’m being targeted because I said Adult Human Female publicly.

GrandKarber · 26/02/2024 13:59

I’ve name changed but I’ve been here a LONG time.

I posted in a political discussion about the definition of women and the use of cis-gender. I don’t consider myself transphobic, I was absolutely clear that I defend the rights of everyone to live and identify how they want, including protecting female only spaces, and that I define a woman as an adult human female. In 2 posts.

I’ve been banned from the page, trolled, my business has been targetted via its overarching company (I have a franchise) and I’m spooked. We live above the shop, and my kids are here and they know where I am.

What prompted me to post was the comments about Jess Phillips being a coward. She is trying to do all this publicly, in a world where it’s even more dangerous to be a woman. I’m so angry and feel so helpless about it all. I’m not easily cowed, but these utter bullies don’t fight a fair fight. They’re not arguing about a philosophical position, they’re attempting to ERADICATE anyone that disagrees with their fucking ridiculous world view. And I feel like there isn’t anything I can do without risking my family. That’s it, really.

Asking in good faith.

Did OP mention the names or post photos of any trans people?

Did OP post any imagery that could be considered hateful by some?

Here's an example on a gender critical youtube channel, this is something I am unfortunately seeing a lot of, it's a set of images featuring an offensive caricature of trans people (notice their shirt has the trans flag colours), one of the images depicts them as being hanged (which appears to be a hateful reference to suicide amongst trans people).

https://www.youtube.com/@chipstick./videos (Channel has of course been reported to Youtube and police, waiting for response)

Did OP mention and condone the postings of notable gender critical figures such as JK Rowling?

Did OP mention certain websites such as kiwfarms?

Anything like that?

Oh I see, you're a self appointed terf finder general. Seems a bit sleazy to me but nevermind.

The OP stated clearly she had used the words “adult human female”. That is all.

Ah, but I bet she said it in a way that implies transphobia.

this would be hilarious if we weren’t talking about something dead serious

SGsling · 24/06/2024 06:03

Implies can be such a weasel word. She made it clear that she is a sex realist.
That’s not transphobic, is it? Do you actually support vigilante action against reality?

ScathingAngelAgrona · 24/06/2024 06:20

Stating biological reality is not transphobic. Understanding it is not possible to change sex is not transphobic.

Runor · 24/06/2024 06:28

Oooh, I love this one! @Christinapple please tell us what Rowling has said or done which is transphobic - direct quotes/receipts only, not skewed second-hand reporting.

OP, I am really sorry you’re going through this. 💐

ScathingAngelAgrona · 24/06/2024 07:14

Sorry this is happening to you, GrandKarber. There have been some very good suggestions on this thread about keeping records etc.

Clicking on it, this channel appears to be a young American man with 22 followers, not a "gender critical YouTube channel".

Did you mean to post a different link maybe?

Yup. Looks like a common-or-garden Edgelord.

Are you, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist Party?

This would be hilarious except that some of these people are dead serious. I mean, FFS.

Edited to say, I am repeating what pp have said, sorry!

Also asking in good faith - What part of that "youtube channel" is gender critical? Did the person say that they are critical of the concept of gender, that they believe that gender stereotyping is reductive and that people are welcome to dress and behave as they like, but wearing a dress does not change a man into a woman? Or are you falsely conflating actual transphobia/internet trolls with gender critical feminism?

I wasn't going to say but since you asked:

-Obsess with trans people to the point fellow-TERF Elon Musk tells her to post about something else. That's saying something.

-Posted a photo of a trans woman football manager (who has done nothing wrong, just someone who happens to be trans) to 14 million followers to post shit about knowing full well there are people in the comments going to post photos of woodchippers, GIFs of guns being loaded and baseball bats which Rowling never condemns. Trans people don't even need to be criminals or sex offenders for Rowling to target, they just need to exist.

-Reposted a defaced pride flag that had the caption "get this shit off our flag". The "shit" JK Rowling refers to here are the stripes that refer to trans people, gay people of colour and victims of HIV/AIDs.

-Wasn't there also a homosexual man who talked about receiving abusive pile-ons? And Rowling replied something like "guffaw guffaw I almost pulled something!". Her hatred of trans people also extends to gay people who support trans people. In my books she is homophobic as well as transphobic and no friend or ally of the LGBT community.

Think she is well liked or respected? Ask any (non-gender critical) community made up of young people what they think of her. Go to any gay bar in the country and ask them what they think of her. Ask any of the Harry Potter movie actors under the age of 50. etc

IMHO she is radicalised- all her online and offline friends are very radical TERFs so she is exposed to anti-trans stuff everywhere every day. One can only imagine what her twitter looks like when she logs on.

you do realise a prize of a million quid is up for grabs to anyone that can prove JKR said or did anything transphobic-you should be a shoo-in for that. Meanwhile, back on planet earth, this is how it really goes. There is reality (objective, provable and demonstrable), and then there is stuff you would like to be true in your head. Try not to get the two mixed up.

The OP stated clearly she had used the words “adult human female”. That is all.

If this is indeed all there is to it, then possibly because although there's nothing wrong with these words, they are now heavily associated with the gender critical movement.

By making a point of using these words one is basically saying "look everyone, just so you all know I'm a TERF". Again, hard to say much with so little context, but maybe said community has recently had issues with homophobia or transphobia and isn't currently in the mood for a gender critical person going JK Rowling over their community? OP could well have been willing to talk in good faith but the community were anticipating trouble and just didn't want to risk it? Just throwing out suggestions.

IIRC from last year, one of the NZ protestors who attended the planned Kelly Jay Keen event to protest when later interviewed said something along the lines of "we've recently had problems with homophobia and transphobia so we don't want these people here".

This only happened because trans activists have been throwing an almighty mantrum for years now over women having words to describe ourselves.

They could have just not done that.

so just second hand, and often inaccurate reporting then? Maybe apply some critical thinking to your opinions, and some consideration and empathy towards the OP
