Butch Lesbians, Kristen Stewart and Stella O'Malley

As a Lesbian, I'm really appalled by both things. Stella thinks:
My sins are plentiful; one of them was that in an interview with Travis Brown I was really clumsy in the way I tried to communicate about how it is not only autogynephiles who get a sexual charge out of wearing certain clothes. At the time I stupidly suggested that lesbians also get a sexual charge out of wearing clothes. I explained and apologised for this here.
O'Malley

But there she actually thinks women get a sexual charge out of wearing clothes
We don't! I love attracting women by looking great and being stylish. But I don't get sexually excited by wearing menswear or sexy lingerie.

And here's Kristen Stewart who is 'gay' and 'queer' in a jockstrap posing for Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone cover
It's a total male sexualized view of a Lesbian and she does look miserable just like Ellen Page. Why couldn't she wear a high end 3 piece menswear suit like a boss, or motorcycle leathers and be a Butch pinup?

I find it sad there aren't any current role models for Butch Lesbians or frankly for all women who are sporty, and/or into non-feminine clothing and want to look sharp.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart Uncensored: 'I Want to Do the Gayest Thing You've Ever Seen in Your Life'

Kristen Stewart gets candid about her 'Love Lies Bleeding' role, working with fiancée Dylan Meyer on their production company Nevermind, hating Trump, and more.

I don't think I've ever seen her look anything but miserable.

Even with the bad mullet, she still doesn't look very butch either despite the jockstrap.

MarieDeGournay · 16/02/2024 13:47

I feel your pain, thatsthewayitis!

Why couldn't she wear a high end 3 piece menswear suit like a boss, or motorcycle leathers and be a Butch pinup?

    • The last butch lesbian in a high end three piece suit who got mentioned on MN was baroness Ruth Hunt, and that didn't end well...

I find it sad there aren't any current role models for Butch Lesbians
There aren't?? [Slicks hair back and adjusts cufflinks...]😎

Yes, my lesbian circle is enraged about this. As if deciding that dressing in a practical, comfortable way that allows us to be as active and unrestricted as men is some kind of fetish. As if deciding to challenge gender norms by wearing a suit or a shirt and tie or a traditionally male haircut is a sexual rather than a political statement. She revealed the depth of her ignorance and lack of understanding in that statement.

I wasn't a fan at a time when lots of others seemed to get a lot out of her. More confidence than insight: inconsistent. More recently I've seen a couple of interviews where she didn't set my spidey senses off, but I suspect now she's one of those women who, despite calling herself a feminist and talking the talk, doesn't really get it, doesn't really have any deep understanding of lesbians and other non-conforming women.

Woman2023 · 16/02/2024 14:07

I find the same. She says that she makes mistakes and gets things wrong because she does so much output. If she spent time picking her words more carefully she'd get less done.

She does come across as pretty superficial in her understanding. E.g. when talking about Phil Illy at the Genspect conference she says people had a go at her just for letting him be there in a dress. This was true, but the more substantive reason for the anger was her organisation apparently promoting his book about being AGP, which she just brushes off.

thatsthewayitis · 16/02/2024 14:23

I meant to say KJK posted a video in support of Lesbians, rubbishing S'OM, not any of the 'Managerials' as the fab Julia Long calls them. Stock, Bindel etc where are you?

ps @MarieDeGournay that username+cufflinks! scorching 🔥

Wasn't Bindel otherwise engaged in an interview with Hayton?

ThereIbledit · 16/02/2024 17:20

Kirsten Stewart is trying to look butch in that photo?

Since when was androgenous the same as butch?

JuneSoon · 16/02/2024 17:28

Why has she got her hand down the front of her knickers?

FKAT · 16/02/2024 19:52

IANALesbian.

However this is pornified male gaze stuff. She's a conventionally attractive actress with long hair. The tween star turned rebel sex fiend trope is dated and boring. I have more respect for the old 70s and 80s stars who posed for Playboy when they needed the cash and attention.

gods that's right. What is it with so-called feminists giving attention to these men; DH and Illy who publicly proclaim their AGP?
I don't get it...

Me neither. Totally baffled by it all.

I know she gets pilloried on here but I've met Ruth Hunt through work and she is awesome 👌. And her clothes are sharp.
Goes to show you can't judge people by their Internet reputation.

Don't mind me, I'm just jealous that she's a baronness and I'm not - Baroness Marie de Gournay has a Natalie Clifford Barney kinda vibe, hasn't it?☺

Quite. And wants to grow a moustache and a treasure trail 🙄😏which has made some think the T is beckoning...

It's not her internet reputation that's the issue, it's the way she sold LGB people down the river by forced teaming them with the T. Awesome she ain't: she'll go down in history's book of shame as the woman who took a once-great organisation and trashed it.

PlanetJanette · 17/02/2024 09:25

You’ve got to love the pretence of so called feminists and lesbian ‘allies’ telling a lesbian how she should dress.

BackCats · 17/02/2024 09:41

AlisonDonut · 16/02/2024 21:07

Me neither. Totally baffled by it all.

Perhaps it’s the same reason gay men like Andrew Doyle do? AD doesn’t fancy women so doesn’t relate to the sexual charge a heterosexual man can get from wearing ‘women’s clothes’ and - I believe JB hasn’t had much in the way of heterosexual activity (I could be wrong, but I am sure I’ve heard her being described as a ‘gold star lesbian’ before) so, maybe she can’t relate to that male ‘charge’ either, presumes it’s akin to wearing a man’s shirt?

The first poster describes herself as a lesbian.

A poster who says she is not a lesbian criticises the male gaze framing of the photoshoot- I believe it’s ok for feminists to criticise the male gaze whatever the woman in question’s sexuality is, don’t you?

Not sure why you think it’s any better for a lesbian (and of course anyone can describe themselves as anything on an anonymous forum) to criticise another lesbian for their choices about how to present.

BackCats · 17/02/2024 10:07

Its identity politics isn’t it? Who is ‘allowed’ to think or say what according to their expressed ‘identity’? This is where the rot set into the collective brain and led to ‘no debate’ and the rest of that nonsense.

If you support critical thinking, please robustly challenge anyone telling someone what they are allow to think or express according to their identity, otherwise intelligent people and their valuable perspectives can be shamed into silence.

AdamRyan · 17/02/2024 11:17

Fairly standard feminist practice to point out how the male gaze impacts how women choose to present themselves. And interesting to see a lesbian doing that. Although I assume that was actually the magazine editors wanting to sell copy.

Well you seemed to imply it was wrong due to the assumed heterosexuality of the poster.

I mean straight people telling lesbians how to correctly lesbian is particularly egregious.

But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s pretty bad even if it’s other lesbians doing it.
