stop motion star burst GIF by Tara

I'd like to tell them exactly what to do with their gift for their menopausal staff.

Biting the head off a jelly baby ain't gonna cut it!

RedChester · 15/02/2024 21:41

You can tell that was designed by someone who isn’t even close to menopause.

The paper clip especially.

EbbasFleet · 15/02/2024 21:44

Eh? Is this something avanti have been giving out to their staff? Shock

mauvish · 15/02/2024 21:46

Is the penny in lieu of a pay rise this year?

Helleofabore · 15/02/2024 21:49

That is grim.

Topofthemountain · 15/02/2024 21:50

It seems to be similar to this Mother one. Except my, then young, daughter, saw it on a little table top sale on holiday and pulled her Dad over to buy it for me (i.e. it had a sentimental giving process)

That one should have stayed a thought in someone's head.

It reminds me of that great line from Parks & Rec: "We thank you for the container of sap and the bag of garbage".

mildlydispeptic · 15/02/2024 21:57

It's like the AJ Bell "wobbly bits" campaign. Leaves me completely at a loss to imagine what went on in the room. Was it a bunch of men, or if there were women involved, how fucking clueless are they?

BlackeyedSusan · 15/02/2024 22:02

Some of those things are ok. (Candle, fan and tea bag) Some of them are fucking insulting. (Jelly baby) some could be either depending on your perspective. (Pencil)

(Autistic and practical)

They haven't run it past the demographic in question...

anothernamitynamenamechange · 15/02/2024 22:07

Its similar to the "period boxes" some people make/order for their daughter so I guess that they were copying that. The thing is, that the kind of thing thats quite sweet, if a bit cheesy, to do for someone you know (like @Topofthemountain s example). Its bloody weird for a company to do for its staff/customers. Faux mateyness.

PronounssheRa · 15/02/2024 22:08

It's so embarrassingly shit I would love to know who came up with it

I bet they thought it was brilliant

anothernamitynamenamechange · 15/02/2024 22:09

(I don't actually know of anyone doing the period box thing mind. The Guardian were wittering on about it at one point. But some girls might appreciate it. I would have hated it.)

Tinysoxxx · 15/02/2024 22:09

I’d be asking for a receipt so I can get some money back for a coffee.

ThursdayTomorrow · 15/02/2024 22:10

I like them. Would be happy to receive one.

From your employer?

I mean a mate who knows you're having a shit time with the menopause symptoms yes, but not from my boss!

flowerpotmike · 15/02/2024 22:18

I hate things like this anyway, they are just so pointless. This is extra awful it is just so insulting, patronising and demeaning. An embarrassing token gesture. How do they decide who to give it to?

That was my first thought too - it's the type of thing I'd expect some poor sods to have cobbled together for a PTA fundraiser gag gift on a stall at the Xmas fete with other little bags like the mother one and knitted hedgehog pencil toppers.

It's such a throw away meaningless thing from a big employer that it's worse than then doing absolutely nothing for menopausal women.

This one might actually move me enough to write to the damn company.

With love from a menopausal woman for whom the horrendously debilitating brain fog isn't going to be much helped by a sodding pencil.

Grimchmas · 15/02/2024 22:25

Special slow handclap to this guy in the comments section.

I would much rather extra sick leave for the occasional days when I have had 2 hours sleep due to the night sweats.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 15/02/2024 22:31

“Twee piece of crap to shove up the jacksey of the idiot who thought too”.

dear god I’m turning into my mother…

CervixSampler · 15/02/2024 22:40

They need to add a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer. I'd not be impressed with that from anyone other than my dc who would give it to me in a well meant way. Patronising as hell the cheeky fucks. How about decent pay, decent sick pay, decent breaks, decent holidays, decent pension, decent support, decent management etc? No, just a patronising pat on the head and ridicule.

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/02/2024 22:42

Condescending twats.

menopausalmare · 15/02/2024 22:44

It would be better to include HRT (in case you can't fucking get any).

Doormatnomore · 15/02/2024 22:50

And as always what did it cost. Not just the cost of the contents but the time in all the meetings to come up with it and approve it. Then ship it to the recipients. could be better spent on something.

also how did they decide who got one? Anyone over 50? 45? Or did your line manager ask how regular you were before forking it over in triumph?
