When accusations of transphobia lose their edge because of chronic overuse, TRAs try to spice them up by adding in some accusations of racism, antisemitism, right wingery. That seems to be the plan. Anyway, top article Milli and thanks for the link @BBCisBatshit

I'm not a TRA, and have every right to point out language like that.
I'll just report it next time. Blatant anti semitism

As a matter of interest, what is your report to deletion ratio? I don't include reporting spam links, unauthorised surveys or similar in that.

I ask as this is an interesting sidelight on recent discussions about Helen Joyce's comment about people who participation in meetings is limited to 'corrections' about pronouns, other terminology and wrongthink.

The phenomenon reminds me of Mark Fisher and Exiting the Vampires' Castle. And, the Deptford People's Project (yet again). This ties up with Red's exploration of media and representation (I'll be turning this over in my mind for a few days or more.)

AdamRyan · 20/02/2024 20:29

I have no idea. What's yours? Just out of interest?

AdamRyan · 20/02/2024 20:35

I'd say most of my reports are of other people attacking me (or others) in a personal way for our wrongthink.

I'd never report pronouns.

I do report racism but MNHQ seem to have their deletion bar in a different place to me.

Above 95%. Which is higher than I thought. But my number of reports is pretty small despite being here for >15 years. And I'm having to include the stuff in there where MNHQ sends out a mass email because they had so many reports about items.

As your most recent reference to reporting was less than an hour or so ago, I thought you must be keeping tabs on this because it seems you're quite confident in your compass on such matters so I wondered if this had an evidence base (such as the report to deletion ratio). And you have a sense of how credible or useful a discussant people perceive you to be online and IRL judging by your much earlier comment.

AdamRyan · 20/02/2024 20:46

I'm not sure what you are getting at Confused. But you know, if there is a problem you can always report me.

Just picked this up off another thread. Am I somehow old fashioned to find this deeply alarming? I still remember the days where Nick Griffin was no platforming for saying this kind of thing, now it's mainstream Shock

Can you be more specific as to what you find alarming? And what it is you are referring to as mainstream?

Very rich men with unpalatable views have always controlled the media. What is it about this person that makes him so much more worrisome than all the others?

  • the fact he's donated half a million to the Conservatives
  • the fact Priti Patel calls GB news "our friends"
  • the fact he funds GB News and Unherd which are "antiwoke" and post a lot of right wing content I find objectionable
  • liking/retweeting threads about the inevitability of civil war in Europe
  • liking/retweeting information about closing borders and expelling Muslims. (Very obvious parallels with historical events here).

In my opinion before the Internet some of this would be illegal and it still should be. It goes beyond "unpalatable views" and into racism and Nazi-esque tropes.

I'm surprised you don't find it alarming personally.

AdamRyan · 26/02/2024 15:12

And yes it is mainstream. Have you been following the news at all the last couple of days?

Yes I have. I haven’t seen anyone calling for the expelling of muslims. Who is calling for that? It’s hardly mainstream.

Why would you be surprised at my lack of alarm? I’ve lived in the world for a number of years now and there is not much about the current situation that I haven’t seen play out before. There’s nothing I can do about it and being alarmed is unlikely to help.

Did you actually watch the link or are you just keen to push a "nothing to see here" attitude about GB news?

AdamRyan · 26/02/2024 16:49

I posted the link before Anderson ridiculous comments this weekend. You need to watch it for the context but that kind of far right stuff should not be acceptable and not written off as merely "unpalatable".

I’ve watched it a couple of times. I’m struggling to know what I should be so alarmed about. I’m not pushing any “attitude”. I take all news sources with a pinch of salt (including GB News and the one you’ve just linked).

Signalbox · 26/02/2024 17:09

Also you forgot to point me in the direction of any evidence that calling for the expulsion of muslims from the UK is mainstream opinion.

SinnerBoy · 26/02/2024 17:11

Lee Anderson has finally lost the Conservative Whip, for his anti-Muslim comments, including that Sadiq Khan is controlled by Islamists, who have turned London into a Muslim country.

Makes about as much sense as his "You can make a nutritious meal for 30p." Or anything else he's ever said.

Would you like to see him arrested for hate speech?

Any chance people would copy and paste the actual posts from twitter rather than just posting the link?
