Absolutely spot on statement from Matthew Barber. I’m sure he’ll get grief from the usual suspects but his wording is clear and factual with no hint of any bigotry, just reality.

So sick of this misreporting.

It should be the norm to say 'transwoman' or similar, because transwomen aren't women, and we shouldn't be pretending male predators are female.

I think a lot o fpeople think a transwoman is a woman who is trans though, which is why we should be talking sex ONLY. Referring to the sex of someone not a part of their personality

A person can say they feel male or female, thats up to them but the sex of them is what should be referred to

PurpleSparkledPixie · 11/02/2024 20:06

@DerekFaker thank you for that full statement. It was a very balanced one by the PCC and I'm even more impressed by him.

And this is he problem - the trans lobby have deliberately made language around this issue unclear.

Even "trans-identifying man" may not be clear to many people. We Need "X, a man who identifies as a woman ., . . " (or something even more blunt).

Thames Valley Police have now made a response to the statement by Matthew Barber which criticised them for referring to the suspect as a woman. They say they are acting in line with "college of policing authorised professional practice":

I think this is why we should stick to sex and/or biological male or biological female

I hear people refer to 'gender at birth'. There is no gender at birth, its an oxymoron. There is sex observed, sex in utero.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 12/02/2024 18:18

Thames Valley Police adheres to the law and the codes of practice, including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) Code C, when establishing the gender of a person in our custody.

"The individual identified as a female and the officers treated them as such in accordance with College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice, which outlines that officers should treat the person according to their stated preference.

😯

Waffleson · 12/02/2024 18:52

I think "treat" is the key word there, "treat" might mean call them by their preferred name. It shouldn't mean lie to potential witnesses and the general public.

Good point

Yup, exactly

Does this also mean that some poor WPC was forced to carry out any searches on this man?

JanesLittleGirl · 12/02/2024 20:33

The key words are 'any other procedure which requires action to be taken or information to be given that depends on whether the person is to be treated as being male or female".

The police position is that they must respect the declared gender of the person when giving information to protect the privacy of the person.

Yeah, I know and you know that it's bollocks.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/02/2024 20:49

Every police station/ prison needs a male officer who is prepared to identify as "gender fluid", and who can be in "girl mode" as required for body searches on these "ladies".

BananaLlama123 · 12/02/2024 20:50

For any of you living in the TVP area, Matt Barber is up for reelection as PCC on May 2nd. I am not a Tory fan, but I suspect he is going to get my vote this time.

Ramblingnamechanger · 13/02/2024 02:34

As usual MN were spot on. Of course we are right to question these men’s identities. This misreporting has to stop.

They could call them 'Eddies'.
