Thoughts with the woman who remains in hospital, and her two girls. May they all have lots of support and help to heal.

Call me cynical, but I worry it might be the policing giving up and assuming this to be the outcome rather than admit they haven’t got a clue where he is.

This was my worry too.. but if he rocks up with that distinguishable look they'd be so discredited. I'd be thinking it's a cover up if he didn't have that

Deep burns aren't painful though because all the nerve endings that enable you to feel pain are destroyed.

Full thickness burns are not painful, but no one with an extensive burn has pure full thickness. Where you have a full thickness burns you will typically also have a lot of partial thickness, which are extremely painful. A burn is probably the single most painful injury it is possible to have. I have seen some horrendous ones, and the screams of the patients and the smell will stay with me forever.

At this stage, if he were still alive, the pain from the burns would be the least of his issues, as he would almost certainly be septic from the untreated dead tissue, with the infection spreading through the eye socket to the brain.

I would have been very cynical about this announcement from the Met. But the injuries to his face, well, unless he's been hidden by a medical professional I'm not sure how he would be functioning after this amount of time.

You'd think they'd have cctv on bridges for this very reason. Not criminals necessarily, but anyone reported missing where suicide is a concern. I mean, there's cctv everywhere else in London, why not on all the bridges? If someone was reported missing, and there was cctv of them similar to this man, but no one knew for sure, that would be awful for the family. I know you can't cover everywhere, but a bridge over the Thames in central London seems an odd blind spot.

Body found in the Thames.

Hope he suffered.

Same here.

Good news to have it confirmed. And closure for the victims, & for his family too.

The UK is a safer place without him.

Better all round for everyone that's he's conformed dead. What a stain to have left on the world.

The mother is recovering at least to an extent. My heart goes out to her and her daughters.
