Scottish Government announces hub to help sex workers leave industry

Ministers say the initiative will bring together specialist services aimed at helping those impacted by commercial sexual exploitation.

They will also be able to link up with more mainstream services, such as housing, health and social security.

Work is due to start this summer, with the scheme to be first rolled out in the Edinburgh and Borders areas, before being expanded into the Highlands, Perth and Kinross, Aberdeen and Dundee, and then Glasgow and Ayrshire.

It is part of a new strategy from the Scottish Government to support women out of sex work and to challenge men’s demand for such services.

Sounds good…let’s wait and see how it is going to work.

Liking the whole tone of the article. Hope women are helped by this.

This sounds fantastic!

Call me cynical but I seriously doubt that this will be anything other than a sham. Having read and taken part in all the consultations about the vawg and its all about self-id and gender ideology, I just can't see this being any different

I agree. ScotGov have no interest in helping or protecting women. This will be another 'women's service' set up to include men dressing as and calling themselves women. It's all they're interested in and focused on these days.

Isn't it sad that I'm highly suspicious of anything that the Scottish government says or does regarding women.

IwantToRetire · 08/02/2024 00:06

I dont think it is just Scotland. Many ideas that seem good on paper / first announcement get lost in civil service bungling, totally inappropriate organisations being appointed and complete lack of ability to work with groups who have real grass roots knowledge and experience.

Lets hope they aren't disappointed.

But at the very least maybe a statement that talks about helping women escape prostitution is a small positive.

NMN welcomes the Scottish Government’s new strategy for tackling prostitution | Nordic Model Now!

Our initial thoughts are that Scotland’s new strategy for tackling prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation is really impressive.

As with all Scotgov legislation, the devil is in the detail. They like a good strong headline and this one sounds positive. Great to see if it is effective.

I'd be pleased for this to be an accurate description of this initiative. I'd be delighted for it to be successful.
