Uses the pronoun "judy"

That is the the most phenomenally silly thing I've ever read. How could anyone keep a straight face whilst interviewing Mac/Judy? I actually want to meet Mac just so that I can mis-judy Mac!!

GoodOldEmmaNess · 05/02/2024 17:16

Surely if you use a unique 'pronoun' to stand in for the name, it is simply another name. How can someone just legislate that an alternative name they use for themself is grammatically a pronoun?

Froodwithatowel · 05/02/2024 17:22

That has to be a mis print or a mis understanding, surely???

And this is one of the problems of enforced pronoun use. You can start off being 'kind' and using opposite sex pronouns for people, then they want 'fae' & 'zie' and all that. So you end up having to use their made up vocabulary. And now we get Joker Judy, who has appropriated a female name (noun) as a pronoun, which it clearly is not in grammatical terms.

Why are we allowing these people to control us? It's nothing but their manipulation of others. Resist.

A world where everyone has a name and a pronoun which is a different name sounds fascinating, and like it would take some getting used to, lol.

Lottapianos · 05/02/2024 17:28

I hope this person is taking the piss, but sadly I doubt it

I’d never heard of them and google says they’re a performance artist. So, I think it’s performance art.

Well that's extra special!

I saw this and rolled my eyes so hard it hurt.

Wikipedia mentions the pronoun but doesn't use it, so it's "Mac" every time which makes for very cumbersome reading!

It also has this gem:

"Mac has been influenced by the Radical Faeries and invokes "Radical Faerie realness ritual" during performances."

Nope, I have no clue either 🙄

<sings>
Judy, you were meant to be only with me, la-da, da-da
Judy, you were born in moonlight

Just me?

Lewis Carroll kind of got there first. This always tickled me for some reason. (The naming of the poem, rather than the actual poem).

It would have been much more edgy for this person to just admit that their pronouns are 'lookatmelookatmeeeee!'.

That and Humpy Dumptyism too. Some of these postmodernist queer types really aren't as clever and up to date as they imagine.

ResisterRex · 05/02/2024 17:53

My response would be: "that's not a pronoun. HTH".

JoodyBlue · 05/02/2024 17:58

@NecessaryScene this is why I love mumsnet 😁

LenaLamont · 05/02/2024 18:01

Lewis Carroll was clearly a time traveller who met post modernists. Thank you, @NecessaryScene !

I was reading the Felicity Huffman interview (prickly, wasn't it?) and the judy nonsense was just demented.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 05/02/2024 18:01

I wonder how far away we are from abandoning pronouns altogether and just using names… which will be a nightmare for me as I never remember them…

WarriorN · 05/02/2024 18:03

Way to alienate anyone with English as a second language ✔️

NecessaryScene · 05/02/2024 18:11

Reminding myself of it, aside from the name thing which stuck in my brain, actually the poem itself is possibly quite prescient - a parody of a poem by Wordsworth about his encounter with a leech-gatherer(!)

It's a first person-tale from someone off in cloud cuckoo land encountering someone who has some real hardship and has to do some actual hard work, describing his own inner monologue about his attempts to wrap his brains around the concept...

So he'd clearly also met a certain strain of academic narcissism.

popebishop · 05/02/2024 18:25

I like this! It's more original than pretending you're the opposite sexgender!

MrsWhattery · 05/02/2024 18:30

Oh for goodness sake. How can anyone not be embarrassed to announce they “use” the “pronoun” “judy”?

Just goes to show that if you make any group (in this case anyone who announces a “trans” identity) into a sacred caste who must be admired and agreed with whatever bollocks they come up with, some people will definitely run with that as far as they can.

I think if someone said to me “I use the pronoun “judy”” I’d have to reply “Well I don’t.”

What a wazzock - unless it is some kind of satirical making a point about how far you can make people go, in which case fair play. To judy.

Phineyj · 05/02/2024 18:31

That is the maddest poem I ever read!

NecessaryScene · 05/02/2024 18:36

Just noticed the comment on the talk page about the naming of the article...

Why is "Haddocks' Eyes" the main title of this page? It seems to me that if we believe the White Knight's account, the title of the page should be the same as "the name of the song", that is "The Aged Aged Man". The other three titles should probably be redirects, but "Haddocks' Eyes" shouldn't be the main title because it's only what the name of the song is called. 😆

MrsWhattery · 05/02/2024 18:36

Also what is judy thinking not to have specified the cases as is traditional. Judy is missing a trick not making it judy/judim/juders or whatever to make people have to jump through even more hoops. Amateur.
