JK Rowling blasts Glasgow library for 'shaming lesbians' with 'penis-centred' comic

"Glasgow Women's Library has chosen to display a delightful penis-centred work...designed to shame and coerce lesbians out of same-sex orientation. If anyone can think of a more appropriate name for the Glasgow Women's Library, do let me know."

Rowling, who has faced death threats for her beliefs, was responding to a 'thread' by Scottish Lesbians, which said the comic was "openly anti-lesbian material". They say it "portrays lesbianism as a fear of penises, rather than a sexual orientation" and accuses it of "insinuating penises into lesbianism".

The library was heavily criticised on social media, including by Alba MP Neale Hanvey who said the comic promoted "the homophobia and specifically lesbophobia at the heart of gender ideology".
However, defending the library was Duncan Hothersall, editor of Labour Hame, who said: "Solidarity with @womenslibrary, a brilliant organisation run by amazing women, which is currently facing an onslaught of smears and attacks from a mob of transphobes.

I suppose that it's following the same sort of logic as Willoughby, asserting that them is more of a woman than any woman.

As others have said, if you spend your life doing good works for the needy, then carry out a murder, the good things don't outweigh the bad.

It's hard to change the cultural meaning of a cock when men keep using it to rape women. That is a change I'd support (I.e. them not doing that).

I would need to read the "zine" (= pretentious word for "comic book") to judge it.

JK is also in the news because a teacher, Warren Smith, had a conversation with one of his students in which the student couldn't back up his assertion that JK is transphobic. The student had just 'heard' she was. ( https://twitter.com/addicted2newz/status/1753702517765021907)

TRAs have been claiming that Smith's video is a fake. Not sure if there is a thread on this already. I just wanted to say that Aiden Comerford's attacks on Smith are particularly disingenous. He's trying to prove Smith is a 'failed script writer' and set the whole thing up. He says Smith admits to having faked another video, but that's not true at all (https://twitter.com/AidanCTweets/status/1755551711802884550) What's happening here (re the other video) is someone claims the video is 'completely fake' and Smith says, 'it's not completely fake. It's not fake'. He's clearly echoing the other person's words.

Does Comerford understand that? I don't get the man. Doesn't seem very bright. I wish he'd come on here to debate!

She's right. Anyone calling those who disagree with gender ideology 'transphobes' is wrong.

Interesting piece. Student asked to think about what JKR said and analysise the words. He then came to the conclusion she had said nothing he could disagree with and he did not see anything transphobic - although he said he understood why some might object and not want the words said, but came back to saying that sex is binary and it has to be accepted.

It's such a historical, male viewpoint, that all a lesbian needs is a good penis inside her to make her realise that's she's not actually same-sex attracted after all. She needed a magical Penis of Wonder!
