Green Party Women have regrown

It seems the attempt to purge The Green Party of pesky women who believe in biology, the planet, and having their own opinions has failed.

The GPW have regained access to their own e-mailing list after being locked out for months because they knew women are real, and they are about to run new elections for the committee.

Stunned to get a GPW email after SO LONG?
It’s all about Green Party Women 2024 elections: whoop whoop!

I am not sure what has happened, but I somehow suspect the attempt to disaffiliate the group for all women in the party ran into few legal snags. Like the fact women actually have legal rights. Perhaps women lawyers had something to do with it too.

Undoubtedly the TRAs will be hoping to seize power in the women's group so members get ready to vote. There is a lot more fighting to come as the recent suspension of three key members of the Green Seniors group who also somehow over their long lives have come to the crazy opinion that human biology is real. Meanwhile TRA Green Feminists group have just elected a transwoman as their co-leader so they are doubling down. No more of that female centered feminism it seems.

The Ali Shahrar case should be getting judgement sometime in the next few months. The TRAs should be worried. Their dirty tricks are failing and if there is open debate they tend to lose.

Well, after Kier Starmer's little speech this morning, I am keeping everything crossed for this one. I need somebody to vote for!

WarriorN · 31/01/2024 08:30

Oh brilliant!

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2024 08:31

Fantastic. More.power to GPW

GoodOldEmmaNess · 31/01/2024 08:37

I would even join the green party, if there was a strong enough possibility that I could ally myself with non-suppressed women's single-sex groups, policies initiatives within it. And if the organisation as a whole ceased its discriminatory treatment of women. Will watch and wait for now.

Giggorata · 31/01/2024 08:43

Too late for me, I wouldn’t trust them, after everything they've done.

What we need is for all the science-denying queer theorists currently in the Green Party to throw their toys out of the pram and decamp to the LibDems or Labour or wherever else they feel more comfortable, and for genuine environmentalists to take back control of the Greens. If that were to happen, I would have someone to vote for. However ...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/01/2024 08:44

(That appears to be a human being who identifies both as a pig and as someone able to fly. Hmm )

There's more of us than the TRAs in the party know.

And what is needed is more of us gaining local positions. Which invariably we do

As far as I can see, the direction of travel for dedciated trans rights activists only goes one way. From Labour/Tory/Libdems into the Greens.

WarriorN · 31/01/2024 08:57

So does this mean we have Green Party women and Green Party feminists?

Makes me think it's worth joining both for votes to be counted.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2024 09:02

Heather Herbert - Labour to Greens
Mridhul Wadhwa - SNP to Greens
Aimee Challenor - actually that was the only one that was Greens to LibDem.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/01/2024 09:17

- actually that was the only one that was Greens to LibDem.

Only because the position in the Greens became untenable, which is saying something.

WarriorN · 31/01/2024 09:25

Many tories to greens for some strange reason

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2024 10:04

I would say that the motivation doesn't generally seem to be an interest in 'Green' issues, put it that way.

WarriorN · 31/01/2024 10:08

Nope

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/01/2024 11:33

I've said it before, but that doesn't usually stop me.

Greens = party that want us all to pay attention to the scientists when they're talking about the environment

Greens currently also = a party that wants us to pretend there's no science around biological sex in humans, or anyway it doesn't matter

If I can't trust them on the second point, why should I trust them on the first?

See also: every other political party in the UK, on one issue or another. You can't pick and choose which bits of science you're going to accept, especially when the people doing the picking and choosing are not trained scientists and there's a clear consensus amongst those who really do know what they're talking about.

ShangPie · 31/01/2024 14:08

That is a really good point Gaspode.

Having said that, if I’m reluctantly voting for one party, I think I’d rather it be Green than Tory.

I had discounted them, but would like to read more and see if I can stomach it.

Is there a TL:DR version of what’s happened with their Women’s/ Feminist groups?

fromorbit · 01/02/2024 09:17

This is huge we have a date 8 days away. GPW are getting ready to take advantage if Ali wins. His case was strong.

UPDATE ALI vs GPEW. ⚖️ Judgment Will Be Handed Down at 10.00AM, Friday 9 Feb 2024, Mayor’s & City of London Court, Basinghall Street, Guildhall, London EC2V 5AR

Plus another key recent event was the reinstatement of Emma Bateman into the Green party for the second time. Twice she has been pushed out unjustly, both times the Greens' own procedures have cleared her. There is no way I would think she can lose her legal case against The Greens coming up later this year .

Unfortunately, Emma Bateman has been expelled again. 3rd time now.

cariadlet · 06/02/2024 04:48

As a point of clarification, the current members of the Green Party Women still don't have access to Action Network (the system used to email members).

Nobody on the committee has been able to contact members or send emails for a couple of months.

What was finally agreed was that the EROs (Electoral Returning Officers) would be given access to AN in order to run the GPW election.

cariadlet · 06/02/2024 04:49

Throughout this time, Green Party Women have been able to stay active on Twitter and Facebook because they have the passwords!

Aha great to get the full details. I feared it was too good to be true. Anyway the elections will hopefully give a chance to push things forward.

Plus of course we can hope for a Shahrar win rewriting the playbook on Friday.

I'd like to vote Green, but I live in Scotland and they are beyond saving up here

ArabellaScott · 06/02/2024 17:53

Scottish Greens are another planet altogether. I was a member years back. The volume of intense communication and demands scared me off very quickly - and that was before they got taken over by a whole mob of people who are just frankly frightening. There were of course some great people in the party - Andy Wightman and Robin Harper spring to mind. But that was before they got taken over etc etc.

I'm not sure what the alternative is, to be honest. The other parties seem to give no fuck at all about environmental issues, although the Tories will at least listen to farmers and people living rurally where no other party will. The SNP will launch some shiny looking schemes for soundbites but they've not actually brought in any green policies of note, as far as I'm aware. A collapsing public transport system and infrastructure, the disastrous DRM, and repeated failures to get to grips with renewables ... Labour are very much an urban party in my experience.
