... so the German Football Association DFB has just fined top of the league club Bayer Leverkusen €18,000 because fans unfurled a stadium banner saying "there are many musical styles, but only two sexes." Apparently this violates their anti-discrimination statutes with regard to "sexual identity." (Sorry, no English press coverage yet but Google should do the job.)

Currently waiting with bated breath for the unveiling of the first catgender national team. If they ever win their first world cup, they probably won't be rewarded with a set of coffee cups as was the case with the women's team.

How bizarre. Firstly that it was done at a football stadium with a banner, second that it was done at this particular club and third because it’s a statement of fact, so how can it be anti-discrimination? I wonder what prompted it all?

I saw a suggestion on Twitter that Leverkusen fans were trying to taunt the opposing Bremen team which apparently has a reputation of being rather overboard on the woke side. As far as football clubs go, that is.

A frequent GC commentator has also unearthed the actual DFB statutes which as it happens don't mention sexual or gender identity at all - it's "sex and sexual orientation."

Alas, no legal challenge on the horizon as the club has accepted the fine. The way it works is that one third of the fine goes to a charity of their own choosing - German Twitter suggests the German offshoot of LWS 😁

Meanwhile in good old Blighty Sutton United have just appointed the first trans football manager.

Many women's teams are managed by men, and many by women. What's your objection to a trans woman managing a womens' team?

It's nothing to do with transgender people - it's directed a law in Germany which allows intersex people who identify as a third gender to do so.

@DadJoke because when stats are shown they'll say x% of women managing women's teams - look how far women's football has come! When in fact this is a biological man skewing the stats which is negative for women.

You're wrong. DFB directly references "geschlechtliche oder sexuelle Identität" which it turns out they DID recently insert into their statutes, replacing and thus eliminating protection from sex discrimination. This was done after consultation with a TW activist named Julia Monro.

The law you mention does exist but it does not introduce a "third gender," rather giving people with diagnosed DSDs the option to choose the category "diverse" as sex marker on official ID. So basically says "indeterminate". Been taken up by a grand total of 400 individuals.

We're giving the German FA a huge ribbing on Twitter over this.
If you don't know German football you should know that all the banners, fireworks and chores are arranged by the Ultras, not the clubs. So this was a dig at the Bremen fans/club but also a dig at SelfID laws coming in (this month I think)

We're asking the German FA why the clothing in their official shop are sold under only male or female. Answer comes there none.

Interesting indeed. Particularly considering Dresden still has the old ethics code protecting sex, but not gender identity, while the new DFB version written by transactivists now omits sex altogether.

Braunschweig: "Esteemed ladies and gentlemen, full stop."

Chemnitz: "Even a blind person sees there's only two sexes! The DFB Fan Shop has: Men, Women, Babies, Kids."

And the first non-TWAW article in a fairly mainstream outlet, arguing the DFB might end up fining Nobel Pruce winning (and vocally "2 sexes only") biologist Christiane Nüsslein-Vollhardt were she to voice her opinions in a football stadium.
