Joan McAlpine on Edinburgh Rape Crisis

JMcA was an MSP.

'Rape Crisis Scotland and the network it serves receives large amounts of public money (some of which in Edinburgh’s case is paying the services of a KC to fight this case). It’s legitimate to ask how they use this resource. Like other government funded “official” women’s organisations in Scotland, Rape Crisis say sex self-ID causes no problems. But what I can’t forget is that I was in the room when its CEO heard those women, saw their distress, and knew they were self-excluding from a service they needed.'

How a service set up for traumatised women forgot its core function

Good article

No more than i have come to expect from these people who call themselves feminists. Back in the day feminists were women who in some way or other fought for biological womens rights not that we had to mention the “B” word then.

She’s the one who lost her job for standing up for women, wasn’t she?

Tallisker · 30/01/2024 12:28

What a shocking tactic. Ambushing traumatised women with a trans rights activist dressed up as another survivor. That is disgraceful behaviour.

This movement really likes to deceive people, doesn't it?

Froodwithatowel · 30/01/2024 13:42

Yes. The lobby consistently shows itself acting in public without ethics, morals, capacity to care about anyone else, class, honesty, rationality or basic social boundaries.

It's becoming a hallmark.

Joan was probably the first politician who really stood up and spoke out. She was punished by the SNP who rigged an election against her.

The women who went to that meeting finally sent a letter to the committee looking at GRA in October 2022. The committee were too busy to see them. The full extent of what happened has only just started to come out because, at the time, many of them were too upset and traumatised by how Sandy and Sharon treated them and feared what would happen. Scottish Rape Crisis is unfit for purpose and is actively making things worse for many of the women it is supposed to support.

Effectively, yes. The SNP changed the rules to get her out.

They did the same with Cherry, to stop her from standing.

Fucking hell

A key defining feature of all rape is lack of agency.

These survivors had their agency disregarded a second time by the stealth inclusion of a biased genderist activist. An activist advocating that these women deserved no agency in who they must bear their trauma to if they deserve to receive support.

That is absolutely horrible reading. But should be read widely to see the outcome of the people running ERCC s a politicaly hobbyhorse at the expense of the survivors it's supposed to support. Thanks for sharing.

They really went for the edge cases to try and get gender woo accepted unquestioningly. I mean, if men can counsel sexually abused women and be placed in women's prisons, then they can go pretty much anywhere.

I know why the men are pushing for this, but the fucking handmaidens??
How can you be the CEO of a rape crisis centre and do that to abused women who are right in front of you. They weren't some anonymous service users, or being dealt with by other staff, they were brutalised women, right there in front of her and she ambushed and re-traumatised them deliberately.

I can see how people fall for the gender woo theory, but to see the sharp end consequences right in front of you, and do what she did? I will never understand that.

Froodwithatowel · 30/01/2024 19:42

I did for a long time believe the 'conquer the most vulnerable women and show it's all fine and the rest will fall in line' schtik for a long time.

But no. Why were those particular men so desperate to get hold of vulnerable captive women in states of fear and trauma, with interesting sexual histories? I can't overlook this any more. If it wasn't for a flag demanding enforced pretense of naivety and good will, no one would have any difficulty seeing it either.

ArabellaScott · 30/01/2024 21:22

Yes, Frood. Some of it might be strategic. Some of it is just because they enjoy it.
