I love her journalism. The final paragraph filled me with joy (well, the whole thing did)
Phoenix has found safe harbour at the University of Reading, where she was greeted by campus security and given a personal alarm. Here the vice-chancellor manages to balance academic freedom with the right to protest. To Phoenix’s great delight, she was congratulated on her tribunal victory both by academic colleagues and her students, a new generation who, she feels, reject totalitarian thinking. Not an embarrassing uncle after all but a rather cool and courageous aunt.

Mean Girls has nothing on the malice of academia

Latest sapping tribunal victory is a further sign the tide is turning against gender totalitarianism in the workplace

Reading University? Isn't that where Prof Rosa Freedman had urine poured over her door for recognising that sex is binary and women have rights?

At least this time the uni is actually providing some new security, unlike how they treated Prof Freedman.

musicalfrog · 28/01/2024 21:22

Amazed to hear that there are any universities where freedom of thought is still tolerated.

Did Kathleen Stock take her university to a tribunal? It all happened a bit before my time being aware of all this.

lonelywater · 28/01/2024 22:21

Think she just walked as it was all going bonkers. She had at least as good a case as Prof. Phoenix.

lonelywater · 28/01/2024 23:03

Actually, scrub that-she had/has a much better case as I dont think Prof. Phoenix had on campus demonstrations with nutters dressed like the provisional IRA waving flares about.

Propertylover · 29/01/2024 06:04

I have a feeling Kathleen Stock may have reach a settlement but nothing has been said publicly so I assumed it contained an NDA.
