How to respond: been asked what sex I was assigned at birth

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 24/01/2024 17:53

I recently signed up to have blood tests privately (vitamin levels etc).

On the health questionnaire, one of the questions asked what sex I was assigned at birth.

Scientific company should surely do better than this. Not sure it is worth flagging up with them. I suppose, at least they didn't ask gender, but still.... Disappointing.

Tell them you were not assigned any sex at birth, it came as part of the package with no option to change it

Whatever it is you are trying to say here is utterly unfathomable. It's not clear if you're copypasting quotes alongside responses, or just throwing random words at the internet. Try again, maybe?

You don't know anything

Sorry, I don’t understand the question. Why are you upset? I work in healthcare communications so here’s the background.

  1. Lots of people, when asked their sex, give the gender they identify as instead
  2. Blood test results can have different ranges applicable to those born either male or female
  3. That confusion between what gender someone has told them and the sex-specific results can lead clinicians to give incorrect advice or make the wrong treatment decisions.

So…why? Why are you upset they want to know? It’s not about you…it’s about making sure that someone with a cervix who identifies as male doesn’t get ruled out for cervical cancer because they haven’t flipping told the doctor they have one.

What am I missing here?

The fact that is not assigned at birth but observed and then recorded. In fact it can be observed on ultrasound during the mother’s pregnancy. It can also be established on prenatal testing. We need to push back against this idea that it is not biological reality but that somehow thos present at the birth assign the sex. Do the midwives toss coins, or make everyone on a Tuesday female? Oh perhaps they play rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock amd the winner gets to choose the sex of the baby 🙄

You're not talking in their name
There are people Intersex who disagree you

how Each DSDs only affects 1 or the other sex hence they are still male or female just with birth

That's not it Each DSDs only affects one or the other sex

However, each DSD only affects one sex or the other; Hence, they are still male or female, just with birth abnormalities due to the particular DSD they have.

That's not Each DSDs, and that's not a case of still male or female.

Because there are cases that contradict what you're saying.

No DSD effects both sexes.
Each type of DSD effects 1 sex or the other.
The people who claim to be intersex are not as nobody is both sexes or a 3rd sex, and in general dont have a DSD they generally self identify as having a DSD but when questioned about their claimed DSD it rapidly becomes clear that they dont have 1.
Every single DSD charity and support group have repeatedly asked NOT to be called intersex and NOT to be included in the TQ+ campaign or used to prop up the trans ideology.
Everybody has a sex and are male or female even if they have a DSD.

I went for a scan the other day, I said I was female, they asked if I was born female or was I trans.
It felt a bit bemusing but I obviously don't have it in me enough to give a shit about being asked stuff like this as I just answered "born female" - because I am a born female.
I mean, trans women exist and so do trans men, so surely if someone else was going for a bone scan and they said they were male or female, it makes sense to clarify? So they get correct, accurate results, healthcare tailored to you and no confusion.
Everybody happy. Or at least you'd think.

onlytherain · 10/01/2026 18:59

Email them. I have done so a few times and have managed to get "gender identity" changed to "sex" on an official form. Health providers need to realise that they lose patient trust when they use ideologically driven, unscientific language.

@laughingcat You are missing the fact that sex is immutable. If needed, organisations can ask for both sex and gender identity. The term “sex assigned at birth” implies that sex is not innate and that it can be changed. Both implications are false and should not be adopted by health organisations.

For medical reasons, it is only important to know whether a person is male or female.
If medical professionals had to make decisions on how to accurately treat any one of 72 genders, then I think that sadly, a lot of people would die.

How Many Genders Are There? All 72 Genders List

How many genders are there? Besides male and female, here is a list of all 72 other gender identities that a person may belong to. How can I help my child understand gender identity?

Who comes up with this nonsense? An actual doctor, by the look of it? Why 72? My god, some of these are even more batshit that the usual.

Antegender: A protean gender that can be anything but is formless and motionless.

Astral gender: Having a gender identity that feels to be related to space.

Cavusgender: The person feels close to one gender when depressed and to another when not depressed.

Colorgender: In this category, colors are used to describe gender, for example, pink gender or black gender.

Gender witched: The person is inclined toward the notion of having one gender but does not know which.

Please read this everybody if you want a laugh (or maybe a cry).

If I come up with one, can I get it added to the list? Does it need to be approved by a medical board? I'm thinking about

AwaAnBileYerHeid gender: This person thinks gender labels are all absolute tripe.

So many questions...

But males with a trans identity are not female. So why would they say they were female?

Because they believe the mantra "Transwomen Are Women".

You are perhaps not familiar with prominent figures like India, formerly Jonathan, Willoughby, who waved his passport on television with its "female" marker to prove that he is female. Or Dr Beth, formerly Theodore, Upton, a medical doctor, who said at a tribunal that he is "a biological woman".

That's just two. There are many.

So proving gender ideologues are batshit. Next time they ask me am I trans, I’ll just say I am. I mean if they can pretend to be female, I can pretend to be male. Whilst having a cervical smear.

I shall leave this here, it is about India's cervix as told by the wonderful Mr Menno.

So saying there is just male and female sexes isn’t medically correct

Yes it is. DSDs aren't "sexes". Everyone is either male or female, however ambiguous to the observer.

Laughing cat just means that there are some sex chromosomal disorders. People can be born with 2 X chromosomes and a Y chromosome, for example. That’s called Klinefelter syndrome. Triple X syndrome is another one. You can also get XYY. People with XXY and XYY appear male (phenotype) and people with XXX appear female. XXY often causes infertility but XYY and XXX usually don’t.
So it’s not quite accurate to say that everyone is either XX or XY.
This has nothing to do with gender either.

She didn’t say everyone is either XX or XY. Every school child knows that’s not true. But she did say everyone is either male or female, which is true. Including people who are XXY, XYY, or any others.

And, none of which is relevant to the vast vast majority of people who are either XX or XY being able to choose their sex as a matter of personal discretion.

The right which transgender people have to use single-sex spaces matching their gender identity, unless there is a legitimate and proportionate reason to exclude them. Providers get to decide whether they want to use this exemption, and they sometimes do - for example, rape crisis centres have the option, and sports bodies make their own decisions. The attempts to define sex in the EqA is not a "clarification", but a straightforward change in the law which forces providers to exclude all transgender people from services matching their gender identity.

You don't agree that trans women should be allowed to use women's toilets and changing rooms as they legally do at the moment. So, you want to remove that right.

Edited

Well this post aged like milk. 😂

I have just had the same question from another provider so will be sending my same email and hoping to get the successful result I got last time!
