It is time golf crushed noisy trans ideology with some common sense

MSN link so no paywall.

I agree with everything the article says, but I wish it wasn't only the right wing papers saying it.

We all wish everyone would say it, but frankly I am not going to read such a robust and accurate article and bemoan where it came from.

HagoftheNorth · 23/01/2024 19:40

The unfairness and the long-term results - that women’s sport will be mainly occupied by transwomen - is obvious to pretty much everyone reading this thread. Why isn’t it obvious to the rest of the world?

They think that the numbers will be small, and probably they are right. But it only takes one trans competitor in a tournament for the women's chances of winning to go down to zero. It only takes three trans competitors in an Olympic discipline for none of the women to win a medal (it's already happened to some extent when men with 5-ard were allowed to compete). In the eighties, the East German women took 90% of the medals in swimming events. It took the fall of the Berlin Wall to put a stop to it.

It will become clear how messed up it is, but sporting regulators should be reacting more quickly than they are.

Oliver Brown has written some powerful articles about all this - he's an excellent sports journalist. The Telegraph's coverage of women's sport is generally excellent - it has been for years. It may not be my paper of choice BUT their recent coverage of the removal of women's rights has been outstanding. Readers have become fully educated and much to my surprise I regularly notice powerful posts from men that mirror comments made on this board.

WickedSerious · 23/01/2024 20:02

Once a man is allowed to enter it's no longer women's sport, regardless of whether or not they win.

This bollocks needs to stop.

I'm not bemoaning that it's there - I'm grateful that light is being shed on it. But if some of the more left leaning media would challenge it too it would help to negate the cheap shots by those engulfed in trans ideology that it's only a minority of rightwingers getting het up and being hateful. Many of the posters on this board are anything but rightwing but all objectors are tarred with the same brush.

It feels that the left have abandoned us. The Guardian, BBC, labour even the clown lib dems / greens. All captured by a luxury belief that is wreaking havoc on children and young people. And these fools are completely silent about one of the largest medical and social scandals happening to children in our lifetime along with the wholesale removal of women's identity because powerful men who claim to be women insist on it.

Toseland · 23/01/2024 20:39

I once heard that golf was named because it stood for 'Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden' - guess it's going that way again.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/01/2024 21:32

That's a cracking article. I hope it'll do some good, even if just a little.

soupycustard · 23/01/2024 22:02

It is a real pity that for reasons which are completely beyond me, supporting twaw seems to be seen as a 'leftwing' thing to do. And even though I'm historically very 'left', I also hate the way 'rightwing' is now used as a catch-all insult. Like 'commie' in the 60s or 'loony lefty' in the 80s.
Increasingly the words 'left' and 'right' have become utterly meaningless.
I can't read the Guardian any more because of the appalling behaviour of some of its journalists so although I won't be moving to the Telegraph any time soon, I'm just glad there's a paper covering this with some kind of intelligence.

The unseen harm is all the young girls and women who will silently drop out at grassroots level knowing that the only sporting future for them is to be humiliated in competition as a validation prop for mediocre men.

There was something about this on GMB news yesterday which was then posted on X. They started hiding comments because so many were negative.

We need to invent our own wing cos right or left doesn't cut it any more. Maybe it never has. But now it's so bleeding obvious the men just don't care. Womenwing.

MagpiePi · 24/01/2024 09:40

Totally agree @soupycustard

Not only am I politically homeless but also without a newspaper to read having been brought up in The Guardian. The Observer is ok and I tried The Times for a bit but can’t bring myself to read The telegraph.

flyingbuttress43 · 24/01/2024 13:19

I do read the DT and I am pretty centrist in my views. It is not half as right wing as many posters seem to think. I would say it's right of centre on economics but pretty centrist on social issues and, as another poster said, it is unwavering in its support of women's sport, also women in business, women's rights etc. It was warning about the dangers of the trans idealogy long before any on the left woke up to it. Also I don't understand the attitude of right = bad when the left has some pretty extreme views of its own. Life isn't so simple.

Beowulfa · 24/01/2024 14:02

The Telegraph has always been good for sports journalism; people do read papers for other reasons than political commentary. Oh dear, am I performing woman-gender incorrectly by turning to the back and reading the sports pages first?
