Communication on new building - room available for 'chest feeding'

I got an email today about our new building (I work at a university). This explained space had been put aside in the new building for 'breast and chest feeding.' I find this so ridiculous I just need somewhere to vent (don't dare do so to any of my colleagues)!

I am not dismissing "women's" concerns, but what I consider the overreaction of gender critical people on this post...

Come on "women", don't we all have tea to cook and slippers to warm for our husbands?

Why have we got two dadjokes on the thread? Is there a cloning factory?

duc748 · 19/01/2024 18:25

Is it not the case on MN that although you can change username, you can't use two different usernames on the same thread? Unless you somehow had two accounts set up, I suppose.

BayCityCoaster · 19/01/2024 18:28

If you’re a mammal, and you’re feeding your baby with milk produced by your own body, it’s breastfeeding.

That’s just simple scientific fact (admittedly, we all know how gender ideologues feel about scientific fact).

Chests don’t produce milk. Breasts do.

Breastfeeding is a one word description which has served humanity just fine for all of our existence.

It doesn’t need to be changed - and it certainly doesn’t need to be changed to word that doesn’t even make sense.

There is nothing ‘exclusive’ about breastfeeding.

All transmen and non-binary women feeding their babies with milk produced by their own bodies are breastfeeding, like it or not.

It is beyond next-level precious to have an issue with the word, when you’re big, fat sitting there, feeding your baby with milk you’re literally lactating from your human breasts.

Perfectly possible to use two names on a thread. You just change it in the box.

I can attest to that, I was just worried certain users are being cloned!!!!

Thanks, obviously I misunderstood.

So you could all be Boiledbeetle? Except me, of course. 😀

Yes. She could. I mean, we could. We are. I mean not.

I'd not be altogether surprised if the entire board was just me talking to myself tbh. And then forgetting. I'd pinch myself to check but you can't on the app.

We are all just a figment of Arabella's Uddingston! Bloody autocorrect! Imagination!! Even my tablet has been radicalized and has Tunnocks on the brain!

Except that's not what's happening here. You might have missed it, but "breast" is front and center in the email. If it said "chest feeding" alone, you;'d have a point.

The amount of moral panic surrounding an innocuous email which includes trans men is quite eye-opening.

Protecting women's rights is not moral panic. what a nasty things to say.

It wouldn't be...if this had anything to do with protecting women's rights??

Which of my rights are infringed when I use a breastfeeding room that has both the word breastfeeding and the word chestfeeding on it?

dlago · 19/01/2024 20:04

Men have breasts.

Milk comes from breast tissue.

So whether or not the person identified as a man or woman they are breast feeding.

Those are the most Vice City figgy rolls I've ever seen.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 19/01/2024 20:10

There’s the irony. Men get breast cancer. That’s what they call it.

ArabellaScott · 19/01/2024 20:10

'Moral panic' is another one of those phrases that is used to dismiss women's concerns and questions and feelings. We are not allowed to be straightforwardly angry or afforded the honour of being human beings with valid points of view worthy of consideration. We just rush around being 'hysterical' and 'panicking'. So our feelings can be diminished and dismissed.

Someone with a special identity can have heaven and earth moved not to upset their feelings and taking care not to offend them.

Women? We have to just shut up and move over.

Changethetoner · 19/01/2024 20:11

Surely the number of transmen who actually have given birth, still have their breasts, and choose to breastfeed their babies is a tiny number. This seems an incredible sledgehammer -nut scenario. If if if if if a breastfeeding transman does require/desire to use that room, I'm sure they'd be made welcome. Does it really require an offensive (to women) sign on the door, just in case?

BayCityCoaster · 19/01/2024 20:57

If words don’t matter, and this is all unimportant moral panicking, then why do we even need to use the word ‘chestfeeding’? What’s so important about that word?

You will say - because it’s ‘inclusive’.

But how is it inclusive?

Nobody (as in literally) feeds from their chest.

Everybody (again, literally) feeds from their breast. Women, transmen,, and non-binary women (all of who are biological women, since they’re they’re the only ones who can lactate).

Accepting this language allows space for language which pretends men are women and that sort of lie infringes just about all women's rights.

sanluca · 19/01/2024 21:57

For dadjoke, let's make this very simple. If you will never ever need to use a breastfeeding room because of well, biology, you don't get a say in what it is called.
Women who might one day or do or would have used the room for breastfeeding, do get to say what they find offensive in the name of the room. After all, this is a room to be used by women, regardless of how they view themselves.

Not men like you. You don't get to sanctimoniously tell women their feelings and experiences are a 'moral panic'

Btw, nice use of different words but meaning hysterical. Still misogynistic shit though

Maybe transmen get chest cancer instead. No, didn't think so.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 19/01/2024 22:52

I’d hate to be the doctor giving that diagnosis.
