Anyone watching the latest series? Am only halfway through, but some interesting points de about sex vs gender, esp in the university/medical fields and how lecturers' reputations can be damaged by views that differ from students.

Wonder how it will conclude...?!

Ha. I started a thread about thus yesterday, it has slipped down the page. I watched pt2 on player. Def worth watching for how they deal with the issue.

Seen it now. Is the implication that the reputational damage drove Cherry to his final action? That's a string message if so.

Sorry all - trying not to spoiler here!

It won’t surprise me if the second episode never actually makes it onto BBC 1 and disappears in the rescheduling.

A black prophecy indeed. I'll keep an eye out to see if you're right!

I think that although it might look like the BBC is challenging the cancel culture, the message at the end was that those opposing it are insulated and high handed, to the extent that they would murder those who didn't accept their superiority!

Not saying this is real life, but the sort of cartoon representation of the issues, including having young women as temptresses rather than victims of older powerful men.

Or is that BBC balance??

Just watched this. Was impressed to see Jacks message about sex being a biological fact stated so clearly.

heelander · 17/01/2024 23:01

I was surprised by how factually it was presented, and placed in the context of the theme of the episodes which was about bias/fairness/equality. The speech about echo chambers was on the nose
But I think anyone who finds it problematic will soon draw a short line between Emilia and Laurence, sadly. Although meaningless, it's an easy one.

Was impressed to see Jacks message about sex being a biological fact stated so clearly.

But he qualified it by saying in the context of doing an autopsy.

Nothing about social transitioning, or women having to give up their space to trans women.

Yes, but the old professor wasn't even allowed to say that in his lectures!
I Don't think theepisode needed to become a mouthpiece for all the arguments, it showed the extremism to a wider audience.

I was pleasantly surprised. The addition of the masked activists was a bit daring for the Beeb! I think at least it will make people think about the right to tell the truth in the face of masked activism.

Not perfect, but got some of the message out there. Sunlight, a bit at a time but sunlight.

And the placards themselves!

Yes but I suspect among some viewers they would be like the students thinking this is just an old entitled dinosaur, and because of that he had to die and acknowledge he had abused his position to poison the minds of his acolytes!
