Yvonne Tracey v Ed Davey

Former deputy postmistress is taking on Ed Davey, standing as an independent parliamentary candidate.
How I would love her to beat that woman hater.
And I say this as a former Lib Dem canvasser and voter.

Good for her. The Daily Mail seems to be going after him. They've run a few articles on him now. Mainly about his brother being a corporate partner in the law firm fighting the postmistresses/masters and Ed Davey apparently claiming that he didn't know. Hypocrite.
I hope that she wins.

oviedo · 16/01/2024 10:52

She was interviewed on tv this morning and came across as very determined and passionate.

I don’t like the man but I’m not sure about this. What about all the Conservative ministers who ignored the issue? He's a convenient distraction from the fact the Tory’s have been in power for the last 13 years.

borntobequiet · 16/01/2024 10:57

I’ll definitely contribute towards this.
Davey is a weasel of the highest order.

TrainedByCatsToBeScathing · 16/01/2024 11:03

Davey’s has been overly fond of calling for resignations over the years, as well a presiding over a party that has called for members defending womens rights to leave he’s brought this on himself.

PronounssheRa · 16/01/2024 11:06

I don't think responsibility for this can be split down party lines.

Horizon was introduced by Labour, and many of its faults became apparent during that time. The issue then continued throughout the coalition and then the tory government.

Ed davey is a fair target for criticism because he was the post office minister and refused to engage with victims of the scandal. If i recall, he also had a consultancy role with the law firm, who were brought in by the post office to prosecute sub post masters (the same firm where his brother was a partner). Now that role may not have been a conflict he may not have had anything to do with the side of the firm that dealt with the PO, but its all pretty grubby

HagoftheNorth · 16/01/2024 11:09

I hope she wins. Davey has shown himself to have zero integrity.

oviedo · 16/01/2024 11:13

I wonder if she might need a bit of gardening
.Must keep an eye out on the allotment.

Good for her - I hope she's successful. The fact that he took a position with a law form that prosecuted the postmasters / mistresses suggests it was for "services rendered" in ignoring the appeals from them when he was in charge. I believe he earned in the region of £830 an hour for his "advice" !!

Davey has presided over an illiberal autocratic party that has literally hounded women out of the party, has called for the resignation of countless others for "crimes" yet appears to have lost the ability to utter the word "sorry"

He deserves everything that comes his way - if it gets another dangerous man with contempt for safeguarding children & the rights of women out of politics, then every one's a winner.

They absolutely should be punished but none of them are party leader. The victims have particularly said that Davy made decisions that facilitated the cover up.

Paul2023 · 18/01/2024 22:16

Ed Davey previously said he is proud of his knighthood due to his work on energy.
What exactly was Davey’s contribution to energy that warranted a knighthood?

Clabony · 19/01/2024 09:41

Ed Davey's contribution to energy was to set up a consultancy and hire himself out as a consultant. He's an expert on bullshit as an alternative fuel.

You could have put the full stop after bullshit in that sentence.

She’s got my vote. Davey is a misogynistic prick.

Paul2023 · 22/01/2024 19:25

Ed Davey said he’s proud of his knighthood because of the work he did in government with energy?
What exactly did Davey do that was so brilliant with the energy industry?

I genuinely don’t know.

Everyone turns the tv / radio off as soon as he's on either?

pronounsbundlebundle · 22/01/2024 21:00

Yvonne would have my vote, I hope she wins. Having a few former sub postmasters in the House of Commons would be really good for democracy imo.
