Do they offer single sex service or no?

I'm just considering doing some fundraising for them but it really depends.

No they are a fully inclusive charity according to the guy on their chat function

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 15/01/2024 00:04

Thanks @Hoardasurass what a shame.

That's good to clarify, thank you.
I will continue to donate to Women's Aid.

Hi - there was a very similar thread to this last month.

And dont have time to post properly, but Women's Aid is the overall federation that coordinates Women's Aid projects.

They are committed to the right of women to have same sex service provision.

However, each member group of the Federation has the right to decide what services they will provide and how.

On the other thread there are links to the WAFE directory which allows you to search for indiviudal services and through that find out which one offers women only services (which doesn't mean they dont also offer services to men or trans people)

Here's the thread from last night which has the links and infor from other women. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4966044-about-to-donate-to-refuge-but

About to donate to Refuge but… | Mumsnet

Do they believe TWAW? If so, I won’t. Can’t find anything on their website other than a load of EDI word salad.

Thanks @IwantToRetire sorry hadn't realised it was recently discussed.

Not a worry. Just thought easier to read info there rather than repost.

One of the problems is, is that Refuge was never really a feminist organisation, and for years wasn't part of the federation of Women's Aid.

Erin Pizzey was in fact quite anti woman, especially lesbians. But the media loved her story, and much better to promote her than in fact the younger Black Lesbian who set up the first informal refuge in Brixton, Olive Morris.

So most people in the UK think Refuge the organisation is some how the lead group, when in fact it very much isn't. And given their recent employment problems indicate that their corporate style makes them even more of an outlier.

Thanks again, very interesting.

@IwantToRetire

Of course you are totally correct. I had dealings with this org many moons ago. They busied themselves shopping in the provinces, when local authorities started tendering out women’s services, to the cheapest bidders. They helicoptered themselves in all over the bloody place. On an expansionist agenda. Did not give a flying fuck about grass roots services.

Met Sandra Horley a few times. Struck me as ineffectual figure head with no real power or leadership. But a pleasant enough woman

Had a service in a town not far from mine.

Kept a woman in that refuge against her wishes needed a transfer but refuge would not do that as she was a bum on a seat if you see what i mean.

I found out through her solicitor. Was fucking outraged transferred her to where she needed to be.

Smacks of the self serving behaviour of that Scottish shit show on the tribunal thread.

Wanted to post this there but was too angry about the survivor of said shit show earlier on today.

@DangerQuakeRhinoSnake Hiya i would suggest you go on womens aid directory of services, as flowing from that you can locate grass roots women's agencies dealing with DV. Then find them on the charity commission website, to check accounts and annual report to see if that is where you can help. Some of the grass roots agencies who survived the funding fall out are still struggling to keep their heads above water.
