Lib Dem's wondering where their members went

mumsandaunties · 08/01/2024 19:35

I just got this email from the membership officer of our local Lib Dem party.

I’ve been looking at our membership data for the last 4 year, and I’ve noticed a steady decline in our membership, and I understand that you were all once members during that time, but have since lapsed, or resigned.

You will all have different, perfectly good reasons for lapsing your memberships, but I’ve been asked by the Exec committee to understand what the main reasons are.

Hmm...what could it be causing people to leave? It's a head scratcher for sure.

I still wish I could vote for them. They're my party of choice, but they appear to have been taken over by silky-voiced woman-hating bots.

Sadly I feel the same way and it's not good for democracy either to see their demise and the removal of "another option" to either Conservative or Labour.

TWETMIRF · 09/01/2024 09:20

I thought they said they didn't want us as their members or voters? Why are they surprised that they told a significant part of the population to fuck off and we did?

Rightsraptor · 09/01/2024 09:24

Lynn, Baroness Featherstone (I think I got her name right) said quite bluntly that if you don't think TWAW the LibDems don't want you.

So: fuck off, LibDems.

Tallerandtall · 09/01/2024 09:45

@mumsandaunties

its super simple

  1. choosing Ed Davey over LMoran as leader.
  2. no shouting for a rejoin the EU vote.
dolorsit · 09/01/2024 09:48

Not a Lib Dem voter but my friend was a member. Up until the Ed, women can have a penis statement.

We'd never really discussed the issue but friend was so outraged I was treated to a rather spectacular rant without the preliminary testing of the water.

If you left the party how come they are still emailing you? Isn't it a GDPR breach or something - they have no legitimate reason to keep your information?

Good point. Anyone know more about GDPR?

I don't know whether this page from the ICO is at all enlightening.

https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/uk-gdpr-guidance-and-resources/lawful-basis/special-category-data/what-are-the-conditions-for-processing/

(I'm not sure as I've had very little sleep and am no firing on all cylinders at the moment.)

Jeez if Layla Moron (charged with domestic violence) ever got to be LibDem leader and they started backing Brexit or at least stopped being in favour of Remain then there really would be no hope and no point in the LibDems.

borntobequiet · 09/01/2024 10:30

I left, explaining why. Of course, I kept getting emails, to which I replied, explaining why I left and asking them to remove my name from their mailing list. After about three years I stopped getting emails.
I told my local party too, and got a load of patronising TWAW bollocks in return.

Tallerandtall · 09/01/2024 11:08

@1dayatatime

How rude you are.
She is no moron.
Also case dropped.
Whilst she admitted it there was clearly no case to be answered.

Chersfrozenface · 09/01/2024 11:22

"Whilst she admitted it there was clearly no case to be answered."

I'm having trouble understanding that sentence.

NotBadConsidering · 09/01/2024 11:22

She is no moron

“I see someone in their soul and their person. I don’t really care if they have a male body.”

Only morons believe in gendered souls.

Meh. Remember we're now in clown land where words mean what we want them to mean - not what they actually are.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/01/2024 11:53

I also joined the LDs some years ago around Brexit thinking I was joining a serious political party. Instead there were transactivists / misogynists running round threatening women, dismantling facts and science & self identifying as irrelevant.
Having seen the Featherstone email, discovered their fondness for Aimee Challenor and more recently their funding from the manufacturer of puberty blockers, it's apparent they're actually a danger - especially to children. The outing of Davey not only for his dismissal of the postmasters/ mistresses and the fact he then trousered hundreds of thousands of £££ from the company who aggressively prosecuted them, made me realise that corruption appears to run very deep.

HermioneWeasley · 09/01/2024 11:57

I was never a member, but I always voted lib dem until they started on their gender ideology crusade. I emailed a query and was told they didn’t want votes from people like me, so i’ve taken them at their word

Summonedbybees · 09/01/2024 12:02

I joined the Lib Dems when I believed they would campaign on the UK rejoining the EU. Our local Lib Dem Council is so biased towards the wealthier parts of the Borough. Posh streets and residents are protected. Roads with social housing have traffic pushed through them.
Ed Davey protecting a wealthy institution (Post Office) and ignoring the plight of the sub postmasters.
Lib Dems are Tory Lite

EdithStourton · 09/01/2024 12:36

They haven't bothered to email me to ask why I left.

Mind you, I did explain it very clearly at the time. I wanted to clear answers to my questions about, oh, irrelevant issues like prisons and sport, but they didn't have any answers, only twaddle.

JusticeTrade · 09/01/2024 13:43

Leadership of most political parties underestimate the enormous contribution that women make as members, leaders (especially locally), volunteers and canvassers.

Why they think it's good policy to piss off 50% (or more) of their support only reveals how little they represent us and how incredibly oblivious their national leadership is.

And in a row about computer cables.

I know young primary school kids with way more self control

VoldeMortlake · 09/01/2024 15:22

I'm a lifelong Lib Dem voter, and they've lost me. Two main reasons:

  1. The conversations in the party on gender have become rabid. Anybody who stands up for women's single-sex spaces, sports etc, and questions TWAW mantras, is vilified.

  2. Lib Dem members of a south London constituency recently deselected their prospective candidate (an experienced and qualified candidate) when they discovered he had a Christian faith. Poor guy has been treated brutally.

Saisong · 08/01/2024 22:15

When I left (because of the gender issue) I spent about a year returning everything they sent in the post and replying to every email explaining that they had confirmed that they didn’t want my bigoted support, so could they please stop contacting me. They only stopped when I reported them to the information commissioner’s office.

She admitted domestic violence?

I must have missed this.
She admitted it and still got away with it?

How

1dayatatime · 09/01/2024 19:36

Unless we can show the same level of understanding whether the aggressor is a man or a woman we fail everyone.
We rightly tell our DDs that 'if he hits you once that is abuse, leave him', no double standard should exist.
