University of Cambridge Survey on Menopause with first question about gender and not sex. As far as I can make out they don't ask about biological sex at all. I've written to the lead investigator to say I won't be filling it in now after starting it. Here's the link in case anyone's interested.

Just posted on facebook, might as well put it out there

I don’t see how answers to this survey from men would help doctors investigate or develop anything that would ease my peri symptoms (or the health and wellbeing of other women going through the menopause) and, given that women’s health is hugely under-resourced and under-researched, I see this study as a perverse and complete waste of time and money.

It's fair enough, I'd say. They are only looking for women of menopausal age, and that's what all their initial stuff talks about. The random daft gender question is totally irrelevant to femaleness, so I ignored it.

The more annoying thing for me is that it's not clear how to answer 'when did you first notice symptoms' if using a mirena coil that stops periods anyway.

They only seem to be interested in responses from people who identify with a gender - so only a tiny percentage of the population are eligible.

I guess they don't ask about sex because they don't need to because it's about menopause and despite the lies and double speak, everyone knows only women menopause.

It specifies women experiencing menopause before you even click on the survey - some of those will identify as trans men or non binary. No issue with the question it is clearly separating biological sex and gender identity as two different things. Biological women experience menopause.

Astridspuzzle · 08/01/2024 22:43

Yes it does specify women but some biological males will identify as women too. Therefore to have reliable data a question about biological sex should be asked too.
