The hearings team are probably unaware (although that’s about to change) of her TikTok activism. If you sit on a fitness to practice panel you are supposed to make a yearly declaration of interest (any potential conflicts of interest). Her entry is pretty sparse. It doesn’t indicate that she is a content provider on TikTok who publishes content under her own name and clearly states that she is an NMC registrant and an NMC FtoP panelist who opines about NMC guidance and FtoP. It is ironic that by disparaging GC views she is potentially in breach of the very guidance that she claims to be explaining to her followers.

That's what I mean; it seems utterly against the spirit of any kind of guidance and impartiality for her to sit there and describe gc views as 'harmful'.

AvacadoFieldsForever · 04/01/2024 20:17

The arrogance of stating you know better than 8 billion other people about sex without any data, research, proof, methodology etc.

And so irresponsible being someone that
people look up to and in a position of influence shaming groups into silence.

Its still staggering.

Recites feminist mantra...
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.
I will not judge a woman by her hairdo.

But then again... I am preparing lecture notes on statistical machine learning and am now idly wondering if anyone has identified a statistical association between deliberately unnatural hair colouring on professional people and obviously barking attitudes to science.

I didn't notice the colour, however I did assume she was a flock of seagulls fan!

@Delphinium20 don't worry blue is a nightmare to upkeep😂. Seriously though i've been colouring my hair every colour in the rainbow since 1994 and I still do, i'm currently half violet and half green balayaged, blues and greens have always been my favourite. I will never give up my hair colour, plus it's fun when they think you are going to agree with them and then don't😂.

Love this!!!!

Citrusandginger · 04/01/2024 20:56

Yes, I know quite a few midwives and they're all very woman-centred in their practice

I also imagine that many of those who have bought into - some men can give birth too - are also thinking about transmen and are thus still being female centred.

It's a world away from the realities of Transwomen's demands to be validated. I expect NMC panel members to be capable of thinking through the consequences of a be kind approach though.

I seriously doubt even the most genderwoo midwife actually practicing in the UK is giving 2 seconds thought to transwomen.

That one on Tiktok might drop in the uterine implant to the chat to display her impecable inclusive credentials, but it's pure posturing and she knows it.

NitroNine · 04/01/2024 21:23

If they didn’t screen their respondents to that survey that put gender on the agenda as well as people who identify as they/them they’ll have lots of people who “identify as” having hEDS or HSD 🙄

Absolutely mortifying nonsense she’s spouting.

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/01/2024 21:35

She’s just come up on my TikTok again telling students how in essays they must back every statement up with evidence. Rather ironic.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 05/01/2024 07:43

The thing I haven’t yet met a woman who thinks she’s a man having a baby. They are pretty rare considering we are expected to change all our language to suit them.

I do however meet a lot of women who I would consider to be vulnerable and need extra consideration because they have limited English, safeguarding issues, learning difficulties or disabilities. Some of them are in such dire circumstances.

I wonder why the “kind” people don’t want to take their needs into consideration. Then I think it’s because some of this “kindness” is just about status, fashionable causes and power over others who don’t know or who object to the new ways of speaking which ultimately demonstrate adherence to gender identity and queer theory, the new religion of the elite.

@Mumoftwo1312 Thank you, I didn't know that. That's so weird though, my QTS certificate says GTC on it and it was issued in 2014! I wonder if they just hadn't used up all the headed paper yet what with all of Gove's budget cuts...
(sorry for the derail everyone).

Edited

You are both right. The actual GTC was abolished and it's functions were taken into the Department for Education.

In what feels like a joke, the actual organisation that issues QTS is called the TRA but it self identifies as the GTC.

Don’t be so sure.

I remember the furore when course materials for the midwifery degree at Napier University mentioned caring for trans identified patients, including catheterising male anatomy. It seems the person who wrote the content was too woke to consider whether said penis was supposed to belong to a biological male, or a female with phalloplasty (knowing of course, the sheer rarity of a successful phalloplasty, and that being able to urinate through one is rarer still) because they changed the wording from MTF to FTM.

So open minded their brains fell out.

Again, academics not midwives at the coalface, and again posturing for "inclusion" points as opposed to guidance of any value to... well anyone really.

So not ACTUALLY inclusive, nor patient centred, nor kind.

I hope midwives can continue to stand "with women". www.rcm.org.uk/news-views/rcm-opinion/2022/putting-women-at-the-centre-of-care/

There have been attempts (again, from academia) to suggest that the very term "midwife" is not inclusive but thankfully they've never gained much traction.

Who knows what the next generation trained by the likes of Napier will think though?

'some of this “kindness” is just about status, fashionable causes and power over others who don’t know or who object to the new ways of speaking'

This.
When you find yourself able to say in a comment 'I was surprised when Sir Robert (Winston) said that (you can't change sex), it's intended I think as a display of cultural power, that she is so much more up to date and modern.

Without wanting to present Sir R as some kind of icon - nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes - to find yourself contradicting someone so eminent in exactly this subject on something so fundamental, and not consider whether the ideas causing you to do so could be flawed, shows both a naked cultural power grab and an intense kind of stupidity.

Yes, I do think there's a minority engaged in a kind of Cultural Revolution (caps deliberate).

For a while now there's been discussion in health around "different ways of knowing" other than the scientific method and this feels like part of that.

I'm not saying that there's no need to interrogate what, how and why we do things, but the interrogation of any proposed change needs to be just as, if not more, robust and that's absolutely not the case.

From what little I can see in the previews she’s very finger-waggy!

Thanks for trying tho @Whiskywinter - I hope someone reports her to the NMC for her lack of professionalism on social media and her clear prejudice against people who believe in material reality.

Whiskywinter · 05/01/2024 19:44

Essentially she lost her own fitness to practice via the NMC. Reinstated now obvs

please could someone link to the actual video. I can’t get past the wall of thumbnails.

Sorry Whiskywinter I didn’t mean to quote you in my post.

Signalbox · 06/01/2024 08:03

It’s surprising that she has fitness to practise history though if she is sitting as a fitness to practise panelist.
