Seeing the Jo Phoenix thread has prompted me to ask: what's coming up in 2024?

The ones I can think of off the top of my head are:

  • Result of Jo Phoenix's tribunal
  • Outcome of Charity Commission investigation into Mermaids
  • Outcome of Shahrar Ali case against the Green Party
  • The final Cass review (hopefully)
  • James Esses's case against the Metanoia Institute

I've a feeling there are more - can anyone remember? What about the Rachel Meade case? I think she won part of it but I don't know if there is still another part left to go.

I have everything crossed.

SinnerBoy · 08/01/2024 12:34

She has to win her case, surely? After Maya's vital win, nobody, no employer can prevent anyone, woman or man, from posting legally protected speech on a private FB page.

Can they?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/01/2024 12:40

I think that social workers think they are spayshul in some way.

I'm hoping this proves that they are not.

Sisterpita · 08/01/2024 13:10

I keep looking for Rachel Meade’s case as it’s been a long time.

Isn’t there also the Charity Commission review of Mermaids?

Sisterpita · 08/01/2024 13:11

Plus Allison Bailey’s appeal against Stonewall.

Brilliant!!!!!!

Were we expecting the embedded HRA study within the Cass Review to be available this year?

The Cass Review is surely drawing near its completion and publication data.

iirc, there was supposed to be access to the records of children and young people who'd attend GIDS to extract some long-term outcome data via some pseudonymised data linkage.

The Cass Review has commissioned several research reviews.48 The University of York has been commissioned to analyse healthcare data on 9,000 individuals who have attended GIDS, including medical records from endocrine services.111 It is expected that this work will provide informative evidence on the pathways that individuals referred to GIDS have taken, what support and interventions were received, and the outcomes. This research can contribute to addressing the range of knowledge gaps on the impacts of hormone treatments. It will also inform the development of a research infrastructure around these services to further build the evidence base, particularly for high quality longitudinal research on long-term health impacts. pg 19:
https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/POST-PB-0055/POST-PB-0055.pdf

Are we ready to speculate that in the same way there's been some lack of cooperation with setting up the distributed regional network of GIDS there may well have been some (principled) resistance / apathy/ unreadiness to participate by some NHS organisations?

Will the contract with University of York to do the research just lapse? Research deferred until a date tbc? Does anyone have an update or informed speculation?

Was Cass supposed to deliver any research products?

Still waiting for judgment in Gillian Phillips tribunal appeal.

Coffeestain · 09/02/2024 07:11

Rachel Meade has her hearing to determine remedy at the Employment tribunal is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, next week- 13-14th February.

“Unfortunately our attempts to agree appropriate recommendations and compensation with WCC and SWE without having to go to the hearing have not proved fruitful. We are now forced to incur further costs and another two days in Court.
The hearing will determine any compensation claims, as well as any other actions and recommendations we will be asking the tribunal to consider making. I will be asking the tribunal to make orders and recommendations which should help protect all social workers, and prevent people going through what I have had to go through.
I cannot thank you enough for all your support so far.
Unfortunately, there is still a shortfall to cover my costs for the upcoming hearing.
If you can contribute, please do.”

There's Emma Hardy suing David Lloyd Gyms. I can't find any info about that having been heard yet and she still seems to be fundraising on democracy three.

All the ones in the OP have now happened, apart from the Charity Commission ruling, which seems to be taking an age.

But as other people have pointed out, other cases keep popping up! I do wonder when these fools will finally cotton on to the fact that they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Quite a number of them still seem to think that they have 100 fully effective divisions left at Stalingrad. They seem to think that the law doesn't apply to them.
