Anyone who doesn't agree that trans women belong in women's toilets, changing rooms, communal showers, rape crisis groups, prisons, hospital wards and sporting categories is a "TERF". That includes most people who aren't completely disconnected from reality.

If you are incapable of responding in an appropriate manner to the person who has actually annoyed you without using a term which constitutes hate speech and could be applied to the vast majority of the electorate, you have no business being an MP.

As in, it's presumably not hate speech when the person she's replying to uses the word, but as soon as Kate does, it's suddenly "that's hate speech!"

I think it's a bit like the "n" word.

Acceptable for those in the group being described to reclaim it and use it about themselves.

But if anyone else uses it about them it is clearly hate speech.

But I'm interested that a Labour representative on the Women and Equalities Select Committee appears to be comfortable using a term that's abusive of women who want to retain single sex spaces - a policy her own party is meant to support.
