USA Boxing to allow transgender women to fight born women

The amateur mainstay of the unpaid code in the sport set out guidelines each transgender boxer must follow to trade blows with a cis-gender.

So far, the move has been met with anger from some. Meanwhile, the transgender and broader LGBTQ community has welcomed it.

The complete list of rules can be read here https://www.worldboxingnews.net/2023/12/30/usa-boxing-transgender-boxing-policy/

I've used the link above as it is quite specific about age, testosterone, etc.. But for a more pacy read there is always the Daily Mail https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-12912389/USA-Boxing-transgender-women-compete-female-boxers-2024-policy.html

USA Boxing set out its 'Transgender Policy' for 2024 with male-to-female transitioners to be able to compete against born women.

Are there any Democrats in the public eye defending women's sex based rights?

Pete Buttigieg, maybe? He seems generally sane, and he's gay, but the queer crowd don't like him, which is always a good sign.

Your experience was always my experience with amateur martial arts. You respected your own ability, especially when fighting less experienced or smaller, lighter opponents.

However, when you fight competitively, respect goes out of the window and the only honour is in winning. This becomes a big problem for women fighting men.

In the case of Khelif at the Spanish boxing camp, they ended up pairing him with another man, because he injured every woman he sparred with.

The worst aspect of this is that it covers amateurs. Most of the people who box in the USA are probably amateurs. Newcomers with no experience. Women and girls getting involved to have fun, build a bit of confidence, learn a skill. Perhaps getting away from a difficult domestic situation, or to help them get over trauma.

The requirements for eligibility are pointless and oppressive. Also, testosterone suppression can be gamed. I doubt if the boxers are being monitored.

If it's fine for males to box adult females, why is it not ok for the less powerful U18 males to box U18 females? The answer is that they know that both are wrong but I suspect they have no legal defence of consent in the case of minors.

The policy was set at the end of last year, so perhaps the furore about the Olympics will make some think.

I'd highly recommend Sharron Davies' book on the whole topic. She co-wrote it with a male athlete and has long been a campaigner for fairness in sports at a grassroots level. She is responsible for engaging Daly Thomson, realising that women just weren't getting listened to, but a high profile male athlete on the other hand...

He also wrote the first decent piece in The Telegraph (forget the left leaning press) during the Olympic boxing row.

I feel completely gutted that the centrist and left-leaning media have had either no take, are apologists for, or worse - totally back the TRA agenda.

This article was the last straw for me (prepare to get really mad), as Van Badham ties herself in knots blaming women who have bought into a rigid sense of femininity or the right for wanting to hand-maiden us, for objecting to the very real, very male elephant in the room.

It's the left meeting itself round the back.

Girls, ignore the sexist rhetoric. Revel in everything that upsets the haters | Van Badham

The preferred model of femininity for the yelping far right is the homebound tradwife. Let them cry and keep boxing

Did you mean to quote me? I've got no issue with your post, just not seeing the connection with mine...

What a load of witless shite than Guardian piece is! But as it's coming from Australia, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised. Obviously a boxing expert, with some fresh insights to give us: so the actual female fighters were 'flailing around like a doily" like dilettantes compared to Khelif? And 'punk energy'? Pur-lease! 🙄

quixote9 · 15/08/2024 14:51

@Ginandpangolins ""proper" combat sports are about honour and respect for yourself, your opponent, your club ) country, and your sport. Where is the honour in XY fighters who gloated in their victories against XX opponents?"

This.

I've found myself avert-your-eyes revolted by Khelif's displays of awfully male boxer-looking, jeering triumph. I wasn't sure why the depth of feeling. It's this. Him making a travesty of the whole idea of a sport.

Sorry I started on it because you wrote about amateur sport and SD is a huge defender of grassroots sports and the protection of the female category. She's written lots about the importance of keeping girls engaged in sports for their health, confidence and of course for the professional opportunities it presents.

Then I went off at a tangent 😂.
