USA Boxing to allow transgender women to fight born women

The amateur mainstay of the unpaid code in the sport set out guidelines each transgender boxer must follow to trade blows with a cis-gender.

So far, the move has been met with anger from some. Meanwhile, the transgender and broader LGBTQ community has welcomed it.

The complete list of rules can be read here https://www.worldboxingnews.net/2023/12/30/usa-boxing-transgender-boxing-policy/

I've used the link above as it is quite specific about age, testosterone, etc.. But for a more pacy read there is always the Daily Mail https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-12912389/USA-Boxing-transgender-women-compete-female-boxers-2024-policy.html

USA Boxing to allow transgender women to fight born women

USA Boxing set out its 'Transgender Policy' for 2024 with male-to-female transitioners to be able to compete against born women.

Most of these female athletes rely on sponsorship to compete and won’t risk losing them by standing down for a single competition. They risk not being able to compete in future and losing funding.

Pretty sure that Carini was pressured into apologising (to the man who punched her) and why there wasn’t a more general outcry from all the female athletes.

Neither of the male boxers lost a single round in the entire comp, both won golds, pushing every other female down the rank, as well as subjecting them to hateful ridicule for not being ‘better boxers’.

….no doubt emboldened by the IOC stance, this absolute fantasy piece was written by a trans woman justifying their inclusion in the female category, void of any balance whatsoever and promoting the latest male athlete muscling in on the female disability category at the Paralympics.:

"No trans athlete has dominated competitions—ever.”
Will be time to retire this questionable talking point and come up with another one soon.

Perhaps the transladies can box the gentlemen with XY chromosomes who have been AFAB, having a male DSD?

After all, they're all women....

The hearing took place as the Biden Administration's Education Department is pushing to change Title IX to support the inclusion of trans athletes in women's sports ( from the Daily Mail article)

How could the Biden Administration be so stupid?

I imagine this policy change is being pushed by Rachel Levine, the US Assistant Secretary for Health, who coincidentally is a 4 star general and a paediatrician. An interesting combination.

Biden was a centrist but his administration decidedly quite L of centre as exemplified by the Asst Secretary choice.

Plus, LGBTQ rights groups celebrate Vice President Harris's selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate because he’s seen as an ally who signed the euphemistically named gender affirmation care into law in Minnesota. Some Democrats are put off by Harris and Waltz because they are so ‘liberal’ on this issue.

It is so frustrating. Obviously anyone but Trump, but why does it have to be at the expense of women and children’s safeguarding? Such a messed up world.

Dr Rachel Levine is already the nation's most prominent openly transgender federal official.

Men. They are men. The whole 'transgender women' wording is how this has been able to happen in the first place. Men are not women, and they have made very clear that any kind obfuscation to salve feelings will be used to physically harm and literally hurt women in this case, with flat out risk of killing one.

So no. Men. End of.

This

this whole thing is pushing me closer to the edge

duc748 · 13/08/2024 22:15

The situation in the US is bleak whatever happens in the election. Awful for American voters, especially women.

annejumps · 13/08/2024 22:20

I fear it's just a matter of time until someone asks Harris or Walz in a public setting what a woman is, etc. etc. and there's some idiotic response (I am a Democrat and will vote for them, but god...) and I'll have to stay off Facebook for another week... well maybe that's not so bad.

ScrollingLeaves · 13/08/2024 22:44

@DrBlackbird · Today 22:09

Ygank you for those details about the USA.

I’d almost be tempted to vote for Trump, whom I detest, because this is so wrong.

Rachel Levine is just the usual male sort of military general but wearing female uniform. Imagine thinking this made for the ‘first’ woman in the job. That was another of Biden’s acts of performance to curry favour with a certain group. Why not have a woman be the first “first woman who …” before dragging in a male version.

ScrollingLeaves · 13/08/2024 23:10

duc748 · 13/08/2024 22:49

Levine is more than just a 'token' gesture, though. She has some sway, and she is using it:

https://news.vanderbilt.edu/2024/04/15/u-s-cabinet-official-leads-seminar-on-transgender-health-and-policy/

Thank you for that information. Perhaps Rachel Levine is a great asset. I do not know much about them at all

I have not had time to read the research of the Vanderbilt Institute. Do you know what it is about LGBTQ Health they deal with?

Do they want children to have puberty blockers and surgeries? Or are they doing a Cass/ Kaltiala type review of their own?

Does their research tell them that transwomen boxers can fight women and that would be both safe and fair? Or are they investigating further and pointing out aspects that are concerning?

duc748 · 13/08/2024 23:18

I'm not claiming to be particularly knowledgeable at all about this, @ScrollingLeaves , and I only posted that because I recalled some discussion about Levine elsewhere on MN. But I think it's pretty fair to say that she's very much a TRA.

So in fact her sway may be disastrous in its effects!

Transgender ‘youth’ health care - it is the worst sort of euphemism.

I have not listened to it all but stopped when the General mentioned transgender health care for youth as ‘mental health’ care and ‘suicide’ prevention.

We can be sure they are ignoring the latest research and are promoting the physical wrecking of children to support their own agenda that trans are born trans.
They also promote WPATH. They are no asset and their sway is harmful.

asks Harris or Walz in a public setting what a woman

Both are public trans allies. Walz is said to have turned his state into a "trans refuge" Harris has been endorsed by LGBTQI+ groups

I know, I'm saying in the current race, such as in a debate.

annejumps · 14/08/2024 00:28

One of the names that came up as a possible Dem VP was JB Pritzker, "Jennifer" Pritzker's cousin. JB is the governor of Illinois, and the Pritzkers are an extremely wealthy family (mainly through the Hyatt Hotels Group) with about a dozen billionaires.

Hasn't Trump already done that, or at least commented on it in one of his online monologues.

I'm more talking about the question being posed to Harris or Walz on the spot. I already know what Trump has said about it. I suppose I'm not being clear.

Snowypeaks · 14/08/2024 08:07

The worst aspect of this is that it covers amateurs. Most of the people who box in the USA are probably amateurs. Newcomers with no experience. Women and girls getting involved to have fun, build a bit of confidence, learn a skill. Perhaps getting away from a difficult domestic situation, or to help them get over trauma.

The requirements for eligibility are pointless and oppressive. Also, testosterone suppression can be gamed. I doubt if the boxers are being monitored.

If it's fine for males to box adult females, why is it not ok for the less powerful U18 males to box U18 females? The answer is that they know that both are wrong but I suspect they have no legal defence of consent in the case of minors.

The policy was set at the end of last year, so perhaps the furore about the Olympics will make some think.

AliasGrace47 · 14/08/2024 13:22

It's honestly terrifying. Women will get pushed out or risk death. Real equality!

Something that I haven't seen discussed much on this board yet is the fact that Khelif and the other one competed against women before being disqualified. Did the fights go just as badly? Or did they hold back like Laurel Hubbard to get to Olympics?

They are not male.

TWETMIRF · 14/08/2024 14:48

How is someone with XY chromosomes and testosterone at a normal male level not male?

C’mon

if their passports say F they are female…passports are biological fact, you know this!

(joking…and I’m afraid to not say I’m joking)

RufustheFactualReindeer · 14/08/2024 15:19

Weirdly if your passport says M you can change it to F if you want to 🤔

its a really strange conundrum….its biological fact if it suits some people and also not biological fact if it suits some people

I doubt there is any one who would, because most (if tv is to be believed) press conferences are very staged. And even if someone asked the question I think they would then be marked out.

Or categoriesed as a right wing re-actionary trying to stoke the gender wars.

Of course saying this from the UK isn't really that reliable, but as far as I am aware none of the major US newspapers take the position of say the Times and the Telegraph. (Although noticeable now that Labour is in power they dont bother so much, which sort of implies they didn't actually think the issue is important, just something to goad Labour with.)

Are there any Democrats in the public eye defending women's sex based rights?
