I've just finished reading this. It's horrifying. These people are insane.

LentilFaculties · 14/12/2023 19:12

It's hard to know how to counter these people when they have bent the meaning of so many concepts to suit their own ideology.

It feels like the ultimate development of the old marketing strategy of calling waxing and other expensive beauty treatments "self care" or "pampering". Consumer culture gone very, very dark.

These are either true believers or sociopaths. Or both, I suppose. How do humans get to a place of being able to justify consenting a patient for surgery which will remove their fertility, as long as the patient is able to make a thumbs up gesture, or consults their multiple personalities via a messaging system? It's terrifying.

This medical stuff makes me so uneasy. It is basically mutilation of a healthy body.

Of course I understand the cultural ideology but I wonder if part of it is the normalisation of plastic surgery in general. We now live in a world where obvious Botox and fillers can be had at a hair salon and sometimes a non natural look is the goal, etc etc.

HagoftheNorth · 15/12/2023 06:32

RebelliousCow I only got half way through that article - it is terrifying.

NotBadConsidering · 15/12/2023 06:44

None of it surprises me. At all. They’re all insane. I’ve come across it in real life. And people who used to be sensible and normal who have been lost.

HagoftheNorth · 15/12/2023 06:52

Surely these doctors realise they have trampled all over boundaries on consent, reasonable behaviour, and their ‘do no harm’ ethos? If anyone believed their doctor approached recommending their medical treatment with this cavalier attitude, they’d never go near their GP again
