The debate about how schools should deal with kids who want to change their gender identity and 'socially transition'.
A private members bill proposing that schools don't acknowledge a student's request to be referred to as a different gender or be treated as the opposite sex, has added further fuel to a debate that has been raging online for several years. Some say it's vital that the students requests are listened to if they want to 'socially transition', even if that means the parents aren't consulted first. Others say it's a major decision that should never be made without the parent's permission. Should parents always be involved? Should schools be able to change the pronouns they use for a student without the parents' permission? What does the law currently say? As things stand, you can't legally change your sex until you're 18. While schools wait for government guidance, teachers fear they may fall foul of the law, parents are concerned about their kids and some students are left confused and sometimes distressed.

It's a consistently disappointing programme on any issue where they can go down the #bekind or "it's the right wing" route to pitch things into the long grass but I'll give it a listen.
