Thank you Cat. Much appreciated.

This is welcome news. No one under 18 can obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate and the process takes 2years, so it was always a stretch.

The link is archiving right now.

''Teachers and pupils will not be compelled to address children who want to change their gender identity by their chosen pronoun, new guidance for schools will state.
The government is next week expected to publish new guidance for schools stating that children can socially transition with the consent of their parents, meaning they can choose another pronoun or name and wear the uniform of the opposite sex.
They will only be able to do so in limited circumstances and with appropriate safeguards in place, with one government source saying there will be an effective “presumption against” social transitioning.''

OvaHere · 27/11/2023 22:34

It's still a bit weak.

Schools will also be told to abide by laws including the Equality Act and must keep toilets, changing rooms and contact sports separate. Children who are socially transitioning will be allowed to play non-contact sports with those of their adopted gender, but contact sports should be separated on the grounds of biological sex, sources said.

Why, when most adult sporting bodies are U turning on sport, would schools be allowed to continue disadvantage and intimidate girls in non contact sports?

Looks like they will still allow male children to be on girls teams for sports like swimming or running. Have they not been paying attention to the opposition re sports other than just the safety aspect? I guess not.

oviedo · 27/11/2023 22:56

FFS this implies that boys can compete in girls track and field events. What an idiotic statement.

oviedo · 27/11/2023 23:03

Really hoping that the source/leak is wrong on the sports guidance.

Really hoping that the source/leak is wrong on the sports guidance.

I hope so otherwise it's pathetic. Out of everything this guidance could cover sport is the most clear cut and easiest win that the majority of people will be supportive of.

Children who are socially transitioning will be allowed to play non-contact sports with those of their adopted gender, but contact sports should be separated on the grounds of biological sex

This makes no sense anyway.
Adopted gender assumes all girls have a specific 'gender' and all boys have a specific 'gender' rather than just a sexed body and a personality. One of only 2 types that it's easy, and necessary to segregate by.

You can't opt in or out of your sex class.

oviedo · 28/11/2023 08:29

@OvaHere
Exactly! So frustrating!

Igmum · 28/11/2023 08:49

I'd hoped for better. Very disappointed in this 3/10

BreatheAndFocus · 28/11/2023 22:18

Yes, the sports thing is very disappointing, both for reasons of fairness but also because schools should be promoting the simple, factual answer: that is, sports are divided by sex. Letting some boys take part in girls’ sports implies these boys are not quite boys - which is wrong. It sends a subtle message that trans girls are ‘a bit like’ actual girls, when they’re the complete opposite.

Froodwithatowel · 29/11/2023 07:15

Well no, not given direction, just kind of a vague poddling about in a small circle muttering don't rock the boat. This achieves the aim of very nicely protecting political arses, but not staff, parents or children. What's this 'can maybe not use pronouns if a good enough good faith reason' bull ffs? What's that going to be? This middle ground nonsense just tries to reduce the shitting on girls, staff, parents, everybody else's equality and rights, and child safeguarding a tiny bit to make it look less fucking terrible in the press.

Bloody Tories. This is watered down past being useful to anyone. We can have letting this bullshit through and harming girls but a bit slower and with a few weak noises about well yes, there might be issues and yes we see all this evidence but ....but.... but.... <kicks to long grass for another six months> . Or we can have the bullshit galloped full speed ahead with bells and whistles.
