Pussy riot protest abortion laws but use term "womb-holders" instead of women.

Pussy Riot stormed Indiana’s supreme court yesterday (November 14) to condemn the state’s draconian abortion laws, performing a work of protest art titled God Save Abortion that calls on lyrics from the group’s 2012 Punk Prayer action in Moscow.

The action saw members of the band don pink balaclavas as they posed with a giant vulva outside the state capitol building, where lawmakers approved a statewide abortion ban beginning in August 2023.

“We came to Indiana because we care about the most vulnerable groups of people – womb-holders who exist in the red states,” says Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova in a statement, pointing out that Indiana was the first state to outlaw most abortions after Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022. “They are neither seen, nor protected.”

Ironic that the protest is for women, but Nadya can't bring herself to name women, instead using the term "womb holders". I mean "women and trans men" fine. But women are reduced to being "womb holders".

It's ill judged, as they might now be cancelled for implying that "trans women" aren't the most vulnerable group.

There is no way to win with this lobby, anything related to <the things we mustn't name> is social death however careful you are.

And yes, a bit stupid really to be protesting women's reproductive rights while being afraid to actually name women. Are men and TW/TM really so precious that they cannot bear 52% of the population to be named out loud or to support their rights too without making it all about them? Or is this fear of a lobby group rather than actual people?

And TRAs accuse us of reducing women to their body parts.

Nadya Tolokonnikova is Russian. There is no even such word "womb-holders" in her language. What the hell is she on about?

I tried looking it up on Google Translate, and with my rudimentary knowledge of Russian, it sounds every bit as jarring as it does in English.

How do you hold your womb? You'd have to get it out first?

Or is it more metaphorical, like "passport holders"? Though this suggests it's some kind of extra for which you have to fill in forms and apply to the authorities.

At least they mentioned vulvas I suppose. The vulvas are misnamed vaginas in my experience as a biology teacher.

I’ve held a few wombs in my time. They were animal wombs, but I believe I would qualify.

Womb holder? Makes it sound like I'm just hanging onto it for the moment before passing it on. One careful owner. Bit past it's prime and some dents but a womb of great character.

They don't really cut through to ordinary people in Russia apparently , because they are known there as Pussy Riot rather than some Russian equivalent.

So they're protesting for the rights of medics who perform uterine/ womb surgery?
