Don’t worry! There will be ten changes for men to win from next year!

That’s exactly what I thought when I heard the news item on R4 and the Brits’ statement that they hope the new rule will bring more diversity in the nominations. Well, that all depends on how those nominations are sourced and collated. There’s no reason to assume anything will change if the process that delivered an all male list this year is extended to 10.

sashagabadon · 24/11/2023 08:32

It’ll be 8 men , 2 women

sashagabadon · 24/11/2023 08:34

Categories themselves allow for diversity. That’s the actual point of them. So having a female and male category IS diversity.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 24/11/2023 08:34

However i did see some music awards in the bbc news site and one winner - the singer from Justine (?) and the Queens - was mentioned throughout ā€˜he’ so, well I guess you just can’t tell. Wonder if Justine would have won without recent revelations?

Froodwithatowel · 24/11/2023 10:28

"Obviously we were disappointed that no women were nominated for artist of the year in 2023," she told BBC News. "So we reached out to people in the industry and expert groups

Basically the industry have been told, please nominate some women quick because it looks really bad, but shhhh, it's a secret so we don't get the DEI oddballs kicking off.

Christine and them Queens?

the singer is female but has adopted male pronouns

That’s the one! For some reason I have the name ā€˜Juliette’ in mind.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 24/11/2023 11:13

Misogynist bastards!

ChateauMargaux · 24/11/2023 11:43

Until we live in a world, where biological women and biological men are equally represented in money, power and share of voice, we cannot let go!

We continue to demonstrate, in every sphere, that unless we fight for equality of representation between men and women, women loose ... every time.

FannyCann · 24/11/2023 11:47

Well maybe those women who are so supportive of the imposter type of women will wake up and care one of these days when they realise it does actually impact them.

I think the true believer is supposed to embrace and celebrate their loss so that the more important have been raised up, kind of in the manner of repenting/original sin and other such Catholic medievalism.

But yes. A lot of the dappy too privileged to have cared ones will eventually care when it's their skin in the game and not faceless other women .

TheMarzipanDildo · 24/11/2023 13:13

I did like that Harry Styles dedicated his award to 5 women who could have been nominated.

SaturdayGiraffe · 24/11/2023 13:24

Surely it’s all rigged anyway.

ArthurbellaScott · 24/11/2023 13:44

Loving our new diverse and inclusive landscape in the arts. So women. Much equal.

UtopiaPlanitia · 24/11/2023 14:44

Isn’t it awful that after decades of categories created for women to allow them equal access to recognition and awards, when those categories are removed things just revert to celebrating men. Hasn’t there been any change in how society views female artists? After years of ā€˜celebrating female empowerment' in the music business we find out that it was all a marketing gimmick and no-one really believed in it.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/11/2023 14:48

This is what it's like living on Planet Stonewall. Useful idiots everywhere.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/11/2023 15:40

I utterly loved Harry Styles for mentioning 5 women in his acceptance speech.

ChateauMargaux · 24/11/2023 21:55

Excuse my bluntness but fuck that.. does Harry Styles really think it's a fair competition ...and he has won? he should have handed it back.

It is so depressing that we are not even an 'also ran'.

It's a man's world.. and when the protections are removed.. the veneer of equality is also removed and the truth is revealed... it was a ruse ... when left to their own devices.. men see no value in women.

It was nice that Styles mentioned the topic. It would have been more useful if he mentioned women and then refused to accept/keep the award until women were given equal treatment again by the Brit Awards.

When are you wims gonna realise that diversity is for penis owners. There's nothing for you here!

And with all open categories he STILL didn’t get a gong.

It was indeed totally predictable so I am afraid I have absolutely zero sympathy.
