Thoroughly stella line up. Love the truck driver!

Of course, the usual too.

Wow unless I'm mistaken they all appear to be female 😱

Quisto · 21/11/2023 06:51

@Hoardasurass Rukshana Kapali is transgender, so presumably male.

I’m taken by the mix of big and little projects and recognition- that some women are working wonderfully in quite little areas, but are still getting recognition here!

I was pleased to see the crash dummy lady, and awed by the bravery of the young woman campaigning against the hijab.

Is it compulsory for these lists to include at least one male? And are they picked for their achievement or is it just a box ticking exercise?

Hoardasurass · 21/11/2023 07:44

Dam should have had a cuppa before I looked

HorseFaced · 21/11/2023 07:47

It is certainly a very eclectic mix in a good way. (I just skim read).
the blind polish sound recordist sounds interesting, maybe my interest piqued because I have been listening to the For The Birds project on Spotify!

Rightsraptor · 21/11/2023 07:51

I haven't looked and won't, at least not till I'm fortified by coffee.

I think pp is correct and there's a requirement which says all lists of female achievers must contain at least one male.

Francesgumm · 21/11/2023 07:59

I’d agree - I reckon at least one male has to be in the line up to appease …. Really irritates me though!

Inamuddle36 · 21/11/2023 08:14

If they wish to include men, then the list should identify inspirational “people”.

Rukshana Kapali seems very impressive and has accomplished a lot having started life in a small village in Nepal. The bio boggles my mind with all the jargon: https://www.york.ac.uk/cahr/human-rights-defenders/protective-fellowship/past/rukshana-kapali/
Despite Rukshana being termed a “transgender woman” I wondered if perhaps she is a biological woman who identifies as “trans” out of some sense of identifying with non-binary gender queer blah blah blah. But her voice sounds more like a gay man than a woman. https://www.ted.com/talks/rukshana_kapali_journeying_to_being_a_transgender/up-next?autoplay=true&muted=true

@Inamuddle36 He says in the Ted Talk that he was "assigned male at birth". But its pretty obvious.

Maybe this is where Sir Kier gets his 99% of women don’t have a penis stats from.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 21/11/2023 09:27

Yup, had a skim through but pretty much knew what they'd do and as per usual they have that quota to knock at least one woman off the list to make way 🙄 Wonder who she would have been?

RubyTrees · 21/11/2023 10:14

Licia Fertz, Italy
Model and influencer

She is an anti-ageism, feminism and LGBTQ+ activist, promoting body positivity and reshaping how we perceive ageing bodies and the elderly.

Can someone be a "feminism and LGBTQ+ activist" at the same time?

It'll be intersectional feminism, which is shorthand these days for including men with special womanly feelings.
