Nandy is mental.

😂
I composed a long comment then realised this was just much more succinct.

I also thought the article must have been from three years ago and can't believe she's still actually saying the same thing.

Circumferences · 16/11/2023 22:08

Seriously though, shit. The Labour party do look like they'll win a landslide next election. They need to get a grip on this shit....
Mixed emotions.......

DrBlackbird · 16/11/2023 22:16

It’s like a bad game of bingo

✅ most marginalised group ever
✅ reducing the debate to body parts
✅ light not heat
✅ debate based on fear
✅ Group of people having a very very tough time
✅ right side of history

It was so upsetting to hear that poor poor Lisa’s heart was breaking as it pained her so much to re read Harry Potter with her son. It is honestly hard to believe that this woman is a lawyer. Trained in legal jurisprudence and argumentation based on evidence. The mind boggles.

Again, it is very very clear what Labour’s position is on trans rights and how these take priority over women’s rights as far as Labour is concerned.

I am political homeless and do not know who to vote for.

miri1985 · 16/11/2023 22:17

She said the debate surrounding transgender issues and women’s rights needs “far less heat and far more light”.

I mean women have been trying to bring sunlight to these issues for years only to be told "no debate". I say great, lets all put our cards on the table I want to know post Isla Bryson does Nandy still think rapists belong in womens prisons and if not why not and if yes why yes.

Also if JKR had said that about me and what she said was entirely correct and justifiable, I would not want to remind people of it. If she can't take that criticism, she is in for an awfully tough time when Labour is in power

Don't think shes has any training in law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Nandy

UtopiaPlanitia · 16/11/2023 22:33

Labour politicians are always saying that we need more light on this issue but then clam up or spout waffle when asked questions.

Repeatedly saying, 'We must talk about XYZ', doesn’t count as actually talking about XYZ. 🙄😒

FigRollsAlly · 16/11/2023 22:39

I’d like to see Beth Rigby interview Nandy about this in the same way she interviewed the Stonewall chair.

donquixotedelamancha · 16/11/2023 22:42

I know people in Nandy's constituency party who ahve spent a lot of time with her.

The fact that she says 'I genuinely think...' so much is a dead giveaway to the fact that she doesn't genuinely think anything. She's a bit thick and a total weathervane.

DworkinWasRight · 17/11/2023 06:15

She wants less heat, more light, but also wants to expel people who disagree with her from the Labour Party. What a fantastic way to achieve that, Lisa.

ArthurbellaScott · 17/11/2023 06:37

How the fuck is this next government going to cope with, say, Defence? Foreign Policy?

Starmer shits himself if anyone says women have cervixes, and Nandy can't handle reading Harry Potter.

teawamutu · 17/11/2023 08:44

I see the 'yap on about heat and light' glitch is still kicking in.

The saving grace is the extent of the scorn with which it's now treated.

I used to think of her as a useful idiot for the TRA lobby, but I suspect that's only half right these days.

The comments under these TImes articles are a wonder to behold…

TheaBrandt · 17/11/2023 09:01

We’ve had the heat and light dear and it’s exposed some rather uncomfortable truths hadnt it? . Women generally aren’t prepared to indulge this any more at our own and our children’s expense.

Ineedanewmoniker · 17/11/2023 09:05

She has a BA and a MA. I find that perplexing for many reasons.

Agreed. Nandy needs to be properly interrogated. Questions I'd want to ask include:

  1. Do you still think, as you did in 2020, that members of gender-critical campaigns like WPUK and LWD should be expelled from the Labour Party?
  2. Do you still believe, as you did in 2020, that a male rapist who identifies as a woman should be housed in a women's prison?
  3. If no to either of the above, what made you change your mind? If yes, how do you square this with the Labour Party policy as it now stands, which is to preserve women's single-sex spaces as outlined in the Equality Act?

There are many more, of course, but those would do for starters.

Feckedupbundle · 17/11/2023 09:14

DrBlackbird you are right. Those phrases must have been printed out on a handy card and been given to the less than bright to recite when challenged.
My female Conservative MP quoted the same crap at me when I wrote to her years ago.

Abhannmor · 17/11/2023 09:16

All your concerns about privacy, dignity and safety are invalid because I know a trans person and they are very nice.

We should treat Scottish nationalists the way Spain does the Catalans.

People I disagree with must be expelled from Labour.

Did Lisa join the wrong party?

zanahoria · 17/11/2023 09:17

JKR shone a beacon of light onto the issue. She wrote a brilliant essay that has helped many people understand the issues and the gender critical point of view.

Lisa Nandy has just made sound bites about light designed to create heat in the media

That makes more sense. Not sure where I thought it was said that she was a lawyer? During the leadership campaign after JC was ousted I think.

Anyhow, this explains much. She’s a career politician almost straight out of higher education i.e. likely cushioned in her life experiences and has never had a proper job. Perhaps, as others have commented, somewhat thick.

Though I also know many intelligent women who are also of the behind brigade supporting use of pronouns etc. Makes me despair.

The scene: a Cabinet meeting. A flunky enters.

“Sir, there’s been a terrorist attack.”

”Quick, fetch the emotional support animals! Is everyone feeling safe? No? Right, designate the Cabinet Office as a safe space with blankets and energy bars. And someone check on the trans community - as the most vulnerable people their suffering will be worse than everyone else’s!”

🙄

zanahoria · 17/11/2023 10:18

The scene: Headquarters, some unspecified foreign hostile power. A flunky enters.

'Your Wickedness, we are ready to attack'

'Excellent. Aim Harry Potter series at London. Weaponise trauma. Activate literal violence with malicious misgendering. Ensure the rearguard are equipped with hurtyfeels including pointing, laughing and mass debate. '

'Sire, I have to point out that some of that entails Non Crime Hate Incident Material'

'Do it. And furthermore, I sanction use of the word 'woman' with no care or thought given to those who are Differently Identified'.

<Flunky blanches, breaks sweat>

'God/dess/ling/ot help us all'

DontBeAPrickDarren · 17/11/2023 10:32

What are the objective measures she is using to declare TW the most marginalised? Numbers who are victims of domestic abuse? Numbers murdered by a partner each week?
