Disappointed that there was no mention in the King's speech of how the Government will update the law so "man means man and woman means woman".

This will be the last opportunity for the Conservatives to put their money where their mouth is and protect women's sex based rights in law, and they've not taken it. I don't know how we can trust them to do this ever, regardless of their posturing on this.

Sad

Haven’t read the Kings speech, but this is disappointing news. The more entrenched this ridiculous legislation gets the harder it will be to remove it.

Quelle surprise! They’re going to use it as a wedge issue at the election and say if they’re elected they’ll bring forward legislation too blah blah

This. It's why I rolled my eyes at the famous meaningless line at their conference. Just another example of a man using women for a selfish goal.

Funny how he had nothing to say about the army women who'd killed herself or that report about surgeons in the NHS not long before that moment 🤷‍♂️ Just men being men, nothing to see. My feeling is that, if he dared elaborated on the details of his definition into something meaningful, all would become a lot clearer

The TRAs are p*ssed off too as there was no mention of a conversion therapy ban. Sitting on the fence doesn't win you any friends

Yep this.

The Conservatives don’t care about changing laws to actually make the country better (they’ve had years to dk that!), they just care about what to say when, to optimise their chances of getting elected. Unfortunately Labour are exactly the same.

“What policy announcements will best trick people into letting us rule them?” Just thinking this way ought to disqualify people from becoming an MP but apparently it’s the other way round.

Of course they're not.

It's a slogan to get people to vote for them like "Take Back Control" was for Brexit.

After all the posts on here about how Badenoch is sorting out the EA I was starting to think maybe it's not all hot air. More fool me.

I was also disappointed that the response to sexual violence against women was "tougher sentences" just after they've directed judges to delay sentencing and leave rapists out of jail because prisons are full.

Very disappointing news. Stunned that the Tories don't see this as an easy win that would gain them votes from women. It's almost as if they want Labour to win the next election.

Froodwithatowel · 07/11/2023 16:20

Considering it's the only bloody card they're holding at this point apart from 'well we're not actually unable to handle reality', yeah I'll guess it'll go in the manifesto.

Oh for someone to vote for.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 07/11/2023 16:23

Does it need to be mentioned in the kings speech if it isnt a new law, but clarification?

Yes, I wondered how "rapists will serve their full sentences" will work with our already full to overcrowding jails.

Then I remembered that rape cases take years to get to court these days and rapists don't usually get convicted.
